Salutation

Steem greetings to everyone in this awesome community. I appreciate the good work done in this community by administrators and for bringing up such a nice topic for this week’s challenge. It is no doubt that human beings cannot exist without food and breakfast happens to be one of the foods we start our day with. Breakfast is like a teaser for me to start my day. Before diving into the guiding questions, I will like to give a brief understanding of the word “breakfast”.

Brief Understanding of Breakfast.

This is classified as the first meal you consumed for the day. Most often it is taken in the morning hours. At night we all have a fast because it is the time to sleep. In the morning hours, we then eat to break the fast of the previous night. Breakfast menus vary depending on our tradition and culture.

In African tradition specifically in the Cameroon context, breakfast menus are a combination of cereals, vegetables, and fruits. In some communities, local diets are equally consumed as breakfast for instance porridge potatoes, corn and beans stew, fufu corn and vegetables, etc.

With globalization, many have adopted different menus from other countries to consume as breakfast. That said, let me share my favorites 🤩 I most often consumed them as breakfast.

My Favorite Breakfast.

Most often I like consuming light food as breakfast especially when I have less strenuous activities to do. But if my activities for the day are strenuous, I go with a heavy breakfast.

My favorite breakfast also is seasonal. During hot weather conditions, I go mostly with fruits and vegetables for breakfast. For cold weather, I go with something hot like coffee, hot chocolate, fried potatoes, or plantains with omelet.

Today, I had to prepare one of my favorites which was kola coffee. The weather was cold and I have been sick for 2 days now. Taking kola coffee this morning before heading to the hospital was a great start for the day.

Ingredients Used and Method of Preparation.

After consuming the coffee, I felt good to go out to the hospital and consult.

The Time I take Breakfast and Who Prepares it.

As I earlier mentioned, breakfast is usually consumed early in the morning to break up the fast of the previous night's rest. Therefore I consume breakfast during the morning hours between 7-10 am.

Most often I prepared breakfast for my household but sometimes my husband usually assists. However, there are moments when I was sick and my carer either my mother, mother-in-law, sister, or my husband prepared breakfast for me.

Notwithstanding, I always prepare breakfast for my family daily. To some people, breakfast is taken any time they deemed necessary. For me between 7:10 am, if I haven’t taken anything as breakfast, then it’s only lunch I take.

Typical Breakfasts Menu in my Country.

As I earlier said, local diets are equally consumed as breakfast in Cameroon. However, this equally depends on households. In rich working-class households, mostly vegetables, fruits, cereals, and grains are consumed as breakfast. In villages, most often inhabited by poor families consumed local diets as breakfast.

Some of the typical breakfasts consumed in Cameroon are fruit salad, vegetable salad, fried ripe plantains with either omelet or fried fresh fish, tea/coffee (accompanied with either bread, pancakes, or scotched eggs.), freshly boiled maize with groundnuts, pap and puff balls and fufu corn with vegetables, etc. I will be talking about some of the breakfast menu but it should be noted that there exist several different types but I’m going with what I most often prepare.

Fruit/vegetable Salad

Fruits are expensive to buy and this can only be a breakfast for the working class because they can often afford to purchase them.

Pap and “Puff Puff”.

This is the most commonly consumed breakfast in Cameroon. It is cheap and one can easily prepare it. This is one of the most common street food you can find early in the morning. However, it is consumed by everyone either working class or middle or low-income earners.

Coffee/tea Accompanied with Bread/pancakes/scotched Eggs

It is not compulsory to take the coffee or tea with the above-mentioned. Some people like to take their coffee or tea without those things. Me, I usually add those when I have much work to do during the day.

Potatoes chips with Omelette.

This is another easy-to-go breakfast though expensive. But it is easy to prepare. It is not time-consuming especially when you are in a rush.

Fried ripe Plantains with Fish or vegetables or Omelette.

This is one of my favorites, especially with vegetables or fish. This one is considered a heavy breakfast especially if your daily activities required more energy.

Fufu corn and vegetables.

I mentioned above that breakfast varies with different households. This applies here as some families consumed the local diet as breakfast. This meal is one of the most common local diets consumed as breakfast in some households in Cameroon. However, there exist several others which I have not mentioned. Cameroon has 253 ethnic groups and each has a unique local diet that can be consumed as breakfast.

Fresh Boiled Corn and Groundnut.

This is another local diet that is mostly consumed in the villages during funerals as breakfast. It is easy to prepare and serve a lot of people.

Conclusion.

Breakfast all depends on an individual what you decided to take early in the morning. Some people will go with just water in the morning but as I already said, I go mostly with vegetables, fruits, tea/coffee, etc. I use this opportunity to invite @saxopedia, @majerius, and @b-naj to share with us their favorite breakfast.

But you do breakfast anytime right?? So you can write about the meals you take to break your fast. Remember there is no specific time for breakfast but you decided when to take it. You must not be the one who prepared the breakfast.

Hi @chant

I agree with you, breakfast is like an advance to start the day, and therefore it is vital that we can ingest healthy and energy-rich foods to help us meet our daily activities, looks delicious and very healthy your breakfast, I ask you: when we have activities that demand enough energy, what breakfast would you recommend?

Upvote on the way.

Thank you for your engaging comment on my entry. Well for me when I have activities that requires more energy use, I go with bananas or plantains and vegetables in the morning as breakfast. The calories in plantains or bananas will sustain you for longer than just consume salad.

Excellent, incorporating bananas in breakfast is a good option, it is even very important since the potassium present in bananas helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue.

These foods look very delicious,
You prepared it perfectly, moreover it is very varied, I really like varied food especially accompanied by tea or coffee,
Omelettes, pancakes are simple ones that can be served and eaten with the family,
Good luck for the contest
👍👍👍

Ooh yes my friend, we have varieties for breakfast in Cameroon due to our multilingual nature of the country.
