Magnificent beasts. I've heard stories of how 'reactive' elephants can be to onlookers.
How close did you get?
I didn't get too close for these, but I often get quite close to them.
Yes they can be quite temperamental, but if you know the animals behavior you can tell immediately when it is feeling uncomfortable with you in its space, and when you need to move.
A lot of their aggression is attributed to those factors and people being out of line...
