AMA Supercross round 5 Oakland 2017 report
Oakland didn't disappoint and what a nights racing! It was always going to be a tricky one with the amount of rain that dumped on the track. The sun managed to show its face though and allowed the track team to sort things out before the nights races began. That being said the track broke down very quickly and caught a lot of people out. Hats off to the riders for dealing with those conditions.
Once again Dungey was left with a bad gate choice due to being pushed to qualifying via the semis! Just goes to show how stacked the field is with talent this year... He came out the gates like a rocket though and quickly dispatched Friese to take the lead early on and pushed on to gain a massive early lead. Tomac though just built and built as the track fell apart. Once he got past Web he soon bridged the gap and got past Dungey with an amazing burst of speed through the whoops! Most of this speed was made up by Tomac being the only rider to quad the rhythm section each lap! How he was pulling the trigger on that with a track so smashed up i just don't know... amazing.
He managed his second consecutive win and fans will now be watching closely to see if the 'old' Eli is back :)
never underestimate Dungey though! His consistency and lack of mistakes means you cannot slip up once... its on!
Massive shout to Web who got his first premier class podium! There will be more i can tell you that.
In the 250 class Davalos grabbed the holeshot as forker crashed hard in the first lap. He did withdraw from the race but did so under his own power which was good to see. He is a young and very talented rider and i wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him lining up this weekend. McElrath had his hands full most of the race with Decotis, who managed to pass him at one point before he recovered to finish third. Davalos rode hard but could not take first from hill. Even though Hill dropped his bike, which hit a branch that had somehow found its way into a rut. This would mean Hill took the red plate from McElrath by taking his third win in a row.
Drama! haha and plenty more to come :)
