Save us from accidents: Primary School Pupils Protest and Cry Out!
Protecting the children in any environment that they find themselves, is very important. They deserve to be protected at home, in schools, churches, mosques, and any other environment that I did not mention here.
It is an unfortunate situation to note that some pupblic places where children are kept or seen are not properly secured to protect the children from some dangers. When children are not protected in any given environment, they are they can easily fall into the dangers of accidents, kidnapping, or lose direction etc.
Pupils Protesting For Safety Concerns: No speed breakers, no zebra crossing.
It was a sad day for the pupils of this school as one of the was hit down by an unidentified tricycle operator. According an eye withness, the student was crossing the road leading to the school when a tricycle coming with a full speed, hits him down.
This provoked the pupils as they summoned enough courage and took to the streets to draw the attention of everyone to the ugly incidents happening to them. Reports have it that the accicdents that occur in front of the school has been on a regular basis.
The pupils are seen chanting various songs to draw the attention of government to address their concerns urgently to avert futher accidents from occuring. The pupils are demanding for:
- Carving a zebra crossing sign for them to be able move into their school without any fear of having accidents
- Construction speed breakers or bumps to limit the speed of vehicles to enable the students cross into their school
The pupils are saying that the lack of zebra crossing and bumps in front of their school, have caused several accidents on regular basis. The students are lamenting that some of them are now dead and several others have sustained various degrees of injuries. They are now calling for the government to come to their rescue as urgent as possible.
The protest carried out by the pupils won the sympathy of well-meaning individuals in the community who also pleaded on the government to urgently save the lives of the pupils. In their words *“We have had numerous accidents involving the pupils of this primary school. It has now come to a point when government should come in to protect the students from further injuries," said one of the residents.
THE NEED FOR BASIC ROAD SAFETY MEASURES
Following the incident that just happened, it is now obvious that having some of the basic road safety measures in place is necessry.
The roads close to public places should be marked or have road signs that could reduce or even prevent traffic casualties. The road leading to this school does not have such signs which are the demands that these pupils are making. Some of the safety measures to put in place include:
School Zone Sign
This sign informs vehicle drivers that there is a school nearby and so they should slow down**Stop Sign
This sign is usually marked with RED and it used at crossroads to controll the traffic and avoid accidents.**Zebra Crossing Sign
This is used to mark a safe crossing for pedestrians wanting to cross to the next point.Speed Limit Sign
This sign shows the speed limit a vehicle is permited to run on the road and should not exceed it.Pedestrian Crossing Sign
This sign is drawn with a person walking on it.
When these signs are appropriately marked on public places, it would reduce or stop road accidents.
I now invite:
