Football, the National Sport of Nigerian - Super eagles
WHAT IS YOUR COUNTRY’S NATIONAL SPORTS? |

Sport is any physical activity that can help to build body fitness. It helps individuals to participate in competition and showcase their talent and skills. Some sports can be done individually (table tennis, Golf, boxing, karate, judo, high jump). While team sports include ( football, basketball, volleyball).
In my country our sport is football; football is a sport that is loved by many people it has united most especially men together it is very fun to either watch or playing football on the pitch and also play as a video game. It could be heartbreaking when your team loses but as a true fan of a club you still have to support the team.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THAT SPORT. (IF YOU KNOW. NOT MANDATORY) |
---|
The game of football was first introduced into Nigeria by the British and ever since then it has been the sport that has been recognized and the most involved activity by many young guys and few ladies. After several years then the Nigeria government decided to create a board named NFA (Nigeria football association) which was formed in 1945. The Nigeria international team was formally named Green Eagle and was then later changed to super Eagles.
The sport has developed in the country that there is now a league where each state forms the team to contest for competition. Nigeria has participated in some international competitions and got victory in it. The county has also raised some super stars in terms of football ( Jay Jay okocha, Mikel obi, kanu Nwankwo) they have all represented Nigeria well both home and abroad.

Both children and Adults in schools often play football during there sports day. Also the super eagles of Nigeria have won several AFCON. DO YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY OTHER SPORTS? |
---|
I don't think the game should be replaced by other sports it took more than 60 years to get the development of the sport to where it is today replacing it is like taking people's joy away. Replacing it with another other sport what is the assurance that the new sport will have more participating players than the football everyone is used to over the years.
Instead of replacing it they should think of more development of the sport to keep people interested to raise the percentage of players watching and playing.
IS THERE ANY OCCASION WHEN THIS SPORT WAS PERFORMED IN YOUR COUNTRY? |
---|
Yes there are several occasions where football matches are being played and i will start with that from that of the student aspect.
In most standard schools, during the inter- house sport students participate in the football sport as a competition where the team that won will be rewarded with cups and medals.
These varies ( the third position team will have the bronze medal, the second position team will have the silver medal while the first position will have the gold medal). Also during the festival period each language will represent its own tribe to participate in the competition.
