Research on Peer Tutoring Teaching Method
Today I with my group member went to a secondary school to carry out a research on the effectiveness of "Peer tutoring teaching method" though it wasn't that easy to organized the students into two different groups. After getting permission from the principal and the Vice principal Academic, we met with all the SS1 students in science classes. With the help the their class teacher which helps us out as our research assistance, we divided the class into two groups, one of the group as a controlled group and the other one as the experimental group.
But before then we selected 5 students from the same class that was last week, train them on the topic we wanted to teach, let them read over the topic so that they can be the ones which will teach their classmate on the same topic that we taught the other controlled group using conventional teachings method to deliver the lessons.
So today when we went there again, we let those 5 students took turns in teaching and explaining the concept to their classmates in chemistry on the concept of "Paper Chromatography" as one of the separating techniques.
The students we selected really did very well in delivering the lesson while we control the class and maintain good learning environment.
After that we gave the class a test to get feedback on the teaching strategy. The students were very happy to learn and take part in teaching.
I strongly believe that peer tutoring should be encouraged among students, because a lot of good potential were observed today and the method really aid in lesson retention.
I thank God for bringing our research work to an end today and wishing ourselves a successful defense.
