Why the Holier-Than-Thou attitude works with investors but not end users.

Investors need to believe that the business owner they are invested in is more intelligent than the target market before they will buy in. Confidence sells itself. It helps if your name is Vitalik and your IQ is higher than the people whom money you've taken. It also helps if you are the only person who truly understands how your software works. So you can go around calling everyone "stupid" that uses your platform in a way you deem "undesirable" or wrong and blame any mishaps on operator errors. Until hype fades anyway.

Consumers on the other hand, don't like being talked down to by the people whom they spend their money with. They have nothing to lose by boycotting, flaming your business online or otherwise harming your bottom line. That phrase "The customer is always right" should be "The business has the most to lose dummy".
