SLC25-W2 // Russian Salad
Welcome to my blog. It gladden my heart to take part in this week's learning challenge.
This challenge is really a blessing to me because I have learn so many things in this course. Example of such is this Russian salads.
I never knew I will prepare this anytime soon but here I am preparing it with the help of our dear challenger.
Please follow along as I show you how I prepare my Russian salads after learning from the example of our dear challenger.
The ingredients

- Lettuce
- Green beans
- Kidney beans
- Carrots
- Eggs
- Sweet corn
- Dressing

The above ingredient are what I used for my Russian salads.
Direction on how I achieved my yummy 😋 Russian salads
After washing all the ingredients and cooking the carrot, egg and Irish Potatoes separately. Remember the three things I cook have different cooking time, so I cooked then separately so that one will not over cook or the other not been cooked properly.
After I finish cooking, I allow the carrot and the egg as well as the Irish Potatoes to get cold and then chop them to the desire size that I wanted for each of them.

Ingredient is ready and is set for mixing.
As you can see the ingredients are set.
I got a clean bowl, picked one ingredients after the order and mixed them until I completed the mixture.
I added the dressing and lastly was the slice egg and lettuce 🥬.
I mixed everything till I was satisfied with the outcome.
It turn out to meet my expectations and I was so happy to have this yummy looking Russian salads.
In your country, what variation do you typically add to Russian salad? Tell us about the flavor of your salad? Did it meet your expectations?
In my country, we usually add the following to enhance our Russian salads;
Protein like smoked salmon, boiled egg like the one I added and grilled chicken 🍗. We also add dice bell pepper 🫑, cucumber 🥒 in addition to carrot 🥕 which is present in this particular one.
We sometimes incorporated fruits like apples to enhance its sweetness.
We add herbs too to enhance it flavour just as I added lettuce 🥬 here to enhance the flavour of this Russian salad.
The flavour of my salad
After adding the ingredients mentioned about and with a little springs of lettuce 🥬, I have a savoury flavour. The above combination gave me a creamy, tangy and good looking salad with some balance taste.
Did the salad meet my expectations
I am answering this question with a very big yes. It was beyond my expectations. I actually couldn't believe my eyes at the outcome. It was 100 over 100 minus nothing.
In fact my children clapped for me the moment I added the dressing and the creamy tangy colour came out.
I was really impressed with the outcome and happy with myself.

Potatoes has the following benefits;
Irish Potatoes is a very good source of protein and as such helps in regulating blood pressure as well as supporting the heart health.
Irish Potatoes is very rich in fiber which supports digestion.
The carbohydrates present in potatoes help to sustain our energy.
Irish Potatoes is very good in protecting the body against cells damage.
The best way to consume Irish potatoes is to boil it to get the maximum benefits instead of frying.
Benefits of Carrot
Carrot has so many health benefits like;
Carrot is rich in vitamin A and thus supporting the eyes and the skin.
The fiber and antioxidants present in fiber helps in regulating blood sugar levels.
Just like potatoes, carrot also help in protecting our cell from damage.
Carrot is rich in fiber and as a result of this support digestion.
Carrot can be eaten raw, cooked and also in combination with other veggies.

The tips I used which works for me is boiling the ingredients like carrot, egg and potatoes properly and separately. Their cooking duration differs and in addition I don't t overcook them.
I cut the ingredients very small for a smooth mixture.
When making this salad I am advising everyone to use fresh vegetables, and protein to get a nice flavour and taste.
This recipe is best served chilled. So I would advise that whenever you are making it, try and refrigerate it get maximum satisfaction.
