The Benefits: From Garlic
Health Benefits of Garlic.
Scientifically identified as Allium sativum, the common garlic is a popular ingredient in very delicious local cuisines. Garlic is a small flowering plant that looks like small onions, growing from a bulb with its characteristic strong odour.
✓ Do you consume garlic frequently? Do you include it in your meals?
Yes, I consume garlic as a spice in my food and as a medicinal ingredient. I have garlic in most of my food. I love the way it combines with ginger or njansang. When making pepper soup, I use garlic and a combination of other spices to get a rich pepper soup flavour that has plenty of health benefits along with its rich aroma and tasty nature.
I put it in my stew, meat or fish papper soup and some local dishes.
✓ What benefits do you know about garlic?
I know it can keep away insects, birds and some animals as it is toxic to them, keeping me safe from these insects and animals.
Raw garlic contains vitamin B, thiamin, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, and zinc.
It can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, acts as an antimicrobial with antifungal properties, works against cell damage with potential to hold off cancer
✓ Is it easy to find garlic in supermarkets in your country? How much does it cost on Steem?
Yes, it is easy to find and buy garlic in both open local markets and supermarkets. You can also find garlic in local shops that stock traditional herbal ingredients.
Imported garlic comes in special white nets and has big white cloves, our local garlic has smaller cloves and a characteristic onion-red colour.
An almost fist-sized garlic will cost 4 Steem.
✓ Do you have a special way to store garlic to preserve its properties?.
Tie the garlic up above a fireplace, the heat prevents it from moulding, and if it is a firewood fireplace, then you are sure to get additional benefits from the smoke buildup on the cloves.
✓ Which dish is famous in your country that has garlic as its main ingredient?.
Have you had the opportunity to feed on soya, one of Nigeria's famous evening roadside snacks? Made primarily of marunated cow or goat meat, kept in a garlic rich broth to marinate and kabab then grilled on a smoking wood fire and served with a special ginger-garlic papper seasoning, with fresh onions and slice cabbage, wrapped in newspaper by the able hands of the Hausa vendor, sharpening his long curved knife at every short interval.
Conclusion and Invitation
You should have garlic, love it for its flavours or medicinal use. It can greatly affect your breath and brushing your mouth is not an option because it comes from your lungs.
