"SLC-S24/W3 | Ribbon Cake"

Greetings dear friend, It another new week with new learning challenges. Time is really flying, we now reached season 24 week 3 of cake making challenge challenge. After digesting my teacher's explanations on how to make Ribbon cake, I was motivated to submit my homework task for the week, Although I have alot of activities on my desk but I struggle to join this challenge. My reason is I love to experiment new things since Ribbon cake is not commonly found in my environment.

Make the given recipe in detail with step by step pictures. Include your name tag with the date at the final presentation of the recipe.

Ingredients materials👇🏾

●Flour
● Sugar
●Eggs
●Butter
●Vanilla Essence
●Baking Powder
● Food Colours Red and Green
● icing Sugar

My recipe process.


In today's recipe, first I took 100 grams of butter and 100 grams of sugar in a clean mixing bowl. Then I mixed the sugar and butter well, until it turned out to be a non-soft dough.

I added my egg one by one and mixed it together using the same spatula till I achieved a smooth texture mix.

My next step followed by adding of my vanilla flavour to my creamer and then mixed all together.

My next step was adding my already measured and sift flour, then add baking powder to my batter. I mixed thoroughly to avoid lumps and achieved a beautiful smooth batter.

Since we are making ribbon cake,I took a plate and divide the batter into two, an added two drop of food colour in each plate.

Thereafter, I cleaned up my cake pan and I grease my pan with the use of little butter and flour, I did this so that the cake will come out very neat after baking without sticking to the pan.

Before this time, I have preheated my oven at 175⁰C, for 10 minutes, so I Placed the mold at the center of the oven for about 40 minutes.
After preheating the oven and baked the 2 cakes at the same time for 40 minutes since my oven can accommodate both cake pans. Then it was ready.

While the cake was being baked, I prepared the icing sugar by adding 30g of butter to a bowl and mixed thoroughly.

Then I measured out the icing sugar and added little by little while mixing them thoroughly until all where added to achieve a beautiful motter.

Then I used the icing and coated the top of the green colour until well covered. I then placed the pink colour on the green colour to form a layer. At this point, I was extremely excited to have my ribbon cake done.

What difficulties did you encounter while making this recipe?

During this preparation cake ,I encounter lot of difficulties, the frist one was getting food colour ingredients,I have been to different places, the ramparts colour was red and green, seeing pink 🩷 colour was difficult. After wasting about 10 steem to different places,I contacted a friend who is a pastry lover and she deliver me out.I was greatful and delighted.

My second difficult was stable electricity, imaging putting your mold on oven after 10 minutes there is no more electricity supply, it was crazy,l had no option than start generator.

The generator sounds wake up my four months old baby, she started crying and shouting, I had to keep my icing sugar and butter and attend to her.

After breastfeeding,she refused to sleep,I backed as an African mother just to finish my Ribbon cake. It was an hectic but a successful moment. I overcome all and had my challenge done.

Explain the importance of each of the ingredients you used in making this cake.

Eggs

  • It's part of our daily diet because it is rich in protein, minerals and vitamins which are body basic need. It improves the eyes health, immune system and heart health. Adding it to cake help to create a tender crumbs and beautiful structure.

Sugar

  • Powdered sugar, or icing sugar, is essential for cake fillings and coatings. It gives a sweet flavor and makes the mixture more appealing.

Vanilla

  • vanilla is a good agent for taste, it adds a nice flavor to cake making. Imagine consuming a cake with flavour, it would be palatable. The flavour alone complement other ingredients making our cake appealing.

Flour

  • Flour is one of the main ingredient which provides foundation for the cake texture.It also contains gluten which helps in the cake chewiness and elasticity. It is good source of carbohydrates and fiber. I have not seen or heard about cake preparation without flour. This means that it is a vital ingredients.

Baking powder

  • Baking powder is a leavening agent, making the texture to be light and airy. No matter how many other ingredients we use while preparing the cake, we cannot prepare a cake without baking powder because adding it to the dough will make it rise .

Butter

  • Butter is commonly used in cake making because it add moisture and tenderness to the cake, making it palatable. It also for flavour enhancement and texture modification.
