My dad is the best chef

Hi wonderful people of this platform today I would like to participate in this new contest organized by @mvchacin in Steemit iron chef community. Here is my contribution to the subject of discussion.

1.- Tell us about the male chefs in your family, which ones are the most popular in the family, the ones everyone wants to cook their speciality.

The male chef in the family is me and my other siblings, we learned how to cook different foods from our mother. She did it so that it would be useful to us whenever we are far away for school or work. Cooking our favorite food saves us a lot of money instead of buying expensive food at restaurants. As a male child in the family, I cook various dishes such as Amala (a Nigerian local food made of yam flour), Eba, rice and beans, spaghetti, etc.

Although our dad does not know how to cook, he prefers to buy food from the canteen when he is hungry. Not all men can cook, but I can testify that sometimes males are more proficient than women when it comes to preparing our delicious food.

2.- What is the speciality of the chef of the house?

I put in my effort to cook my favorite meal so that everyone will request for more. I love to cook rice and beans because it's my favorite dish. I like the smell of the food, especially if I use palm oil with peppers and spices to make the concoction of the food. During the National Youth Service Corps in the northern part of the country, I could cook my favorite dish more than twice a week. There are many food specialties, but it depends on individuals' choices. Rice and beans have nutritional benefits, especially the beans, which are very important to improve our health.

3.- Who usually cooks at home, dad or mum?

For now, Mum usually cooks at home because everyone has gone to different places to seek knowledge. So she is the one who cooks delicious food and goes to the market whenever there is no food in the house because she knows what the family loves to eat. My grandmother sometimes assists her in the kitchen to make sure they satisfy everyone. Like I said earlier, my dad does not know how to cook, but he does assist sometime in the kitchen.

Whenever she is tired and I was at home I would help her prepared the food for the day in order to ensure that everyone enjoy the meal to their fullest.

4.- Where does the chef of the house prefer to cook, outdoors or in the kitchen?

We used both the kitchen and outdoor to cook our favorite food. When there is electricity, we make use of a hot plate or electric cooker to prepare what we want to eat. In fact, it's easier and faster. We also use a locally made charcoal stove, which serves as an alternative means if there is no electricity or if our gas has finished from the cooking cylinder. But we normally use the outdoor space to prepare our food because charcoal is cheaper compared to cooking gas. One kg of cooking gas is 1,100 naira, which is about 5.9 steem. That's why we prefer to use our locally made charcoal stove to cook for the family.

5.- Who is your favourite famous chef?

My favorite chef master is Nusret, popularly known as Salt Bae. This chef gained recognition through social media, where he uses his skill in preparing food to attract many customers to his restaurant. This chef master has branches of his restaurant in some parts of the world. Salt Bae is a Turkish chef but mainly resides in the United Arab Emirates. Most celebrities in Nigeria have visited his restaurant to enjoy seasoned meals. I believe one day I will visit his unique place to enjoy myself as well as to have a good taste of those amazing food.
