What is Pest Control

Pest control refers to the systematic action of minimizing or eliminating populations of organisms which are seen as trespassing or harmful to plants, livestock and all for human welfare. Pests are notorious for wreaking billions of dollars worth of damage to agriculture, property and propagating diseases. Thus pest control is a fundamental segment of agriculture and wellness simply good practice.

Kill all pests is not the sole approach of pest control. The new perspective is a little less about killing everything and more about even the numbers are not Destructive, population control or we may call it Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

How Do You Do Pest Management – Personal Experience

There is time I got armyworm on chili plants that grew in my yard. First I did it the old fashion way, picking off the caterpillars one by one in the mornings and evenings.

But caterpillars kept multiplying and hey presto the leaves started disappearing, eaten clean.

I had a go with one organic method by spraying a fermented garlic and chili pesticide solution. They were so effective, as I literally disturbed the caterpillars with their strong smell. Also, I planted pest repelling herbs like lemongrass and marigolds around the garden for more natural security.

In this process, my ear taught me that fact about knowing the pest life cycle and doing surveillance on a routine based are important and pesticides should not be considered as the only option.

Effective pest management is not only on eradicating but also to preserve the balance of the ecosystem thus allowing crops health and being productive.
