The term agricultural security encompasses a wide range of measures designed to safeguard the agricultural base that underlie food systems, human health and environmental sustainability. Security of agriculture (Physical, Biological and Economic) It also encompasses pests and plant diseases control, pesticide/chemicals management and the implications of climate change for crop yield. Agricultural security also implies the welfare of farmers in ensuring that there is routine access to safe technology and sustainable agriculture practices.

Risk Management in Agriculture Discussion

Agricultural Risk Management is defined as the process of monitoring and minimizing all types of risks that may influence farmer production & welfare. Risks in agriculture can be even more generalized and may include extreme weather, pests and diseases outbreaks, volatile crop production from market-linked crops (the list could go on). Farmers can use different strategies against these risks like applying for instance diversification of crops, the adoption of more adaptive agricultural technologies, the use of insurance and the promotion of low environmental impact sustainable practices. Risk management may help to build farmers' resilience against the unexpected and maintain food security in general.

What Can We Do To Lessen Health Risks in Agriculture?
