Hello friends, it is another great time to share with us another fruit that seems to be common in the neighbourhood as well as vital in our health. Guava is a fruit that many who know about it rarely want to consume, given its availability and sometimes hard texture during chewing.

Guava, being a tropical fruit, comes with its characteristic sweet and unique aroma. It is from the Myrtaceae family with the botanical name Psidium guajava. Though native to Central America, this fruit has been known to be grown in other tropical areas.

The nutritional value of guava cuts across several vitamins and minerals; however, it is worth noting the essential nutritional value associated with guava. It is high in vitamins A and C, and not forgetting the different forms of Vitamin B it contains.

Its mineral component is my attraction towards this wonder fruit. It contains potassium, magnesium, and iron, which are major players in human blood pressure levels. The potassium ingredients are heart-friendly.

Its lycopene presence is another key ingredient towards the management of oxidative stress and prostate health, while not forgetting the fibre contents, which aid digestive health and bowel movements. A better blend for weight management when we do fibres that come with low cholesterol presence.

How about my consumption and culinary display of this fruit? This is unique and I know many others aren't left out from the various forms of intake. I can snack on this fruit by consuming it in its raw state, and the second is blending it into juice and smoothies. These are the two commonest forms by which I consume guava. However, other culinary displays can be used as desserts or in salads.

Talking about guava, this tropical fruit can be grown in all soil types in a warm climate. It requires high sunlight for optimal growth, but is drought tolerant, which indicates or suggests that we should irrigate with moderation. Pruning is essential while growing guava for the ideal shape and fruiting.

Let's narrow down the importance of guava nutritional value to one of men's commonly known ailments, "prostate". Guava has been known to contain vital minerals and vitamins that have been remarkable in preventing prostate dysfunction.

Antioxidants:

The presence of Vitamin C in guava is the main component responsible for these antioxidants that help reduce oxidative stress and other forms of inflammation. The presence of "Flavonoids" also helps to combat free radicals, which in turn reduces the potency of prostate development.

Lycopene:

This is another antioxidant found in guava. Lycopene is a component found in most pink and red fruits with the capability of handling inflammatory concerns in human health, and this supports prostate health.

Folate:

This is another wonder component found in guava with the capabilities of reducing risks associated with prostate cancer. Folates are essential in DNA synthesis and repair, which makes guava a good fit for consumption.

Fiber:

Guava contains high dietary fiber, which is a component that supports healthy weight and, in extension, risks associated with heart and prostate health.

Conclusion

I have always made it a duty to consume guava as much as my hands could find them. It is one fruit that offers me a variety of vitamins and minerals at an affordable cost. These essential nutritional values can be derived from its raw consumption or blended into juices and smoothies.
