Importance of farm safety and risk management when you make a mistake on the farm most often you can learn from it and make corrections so it doesn't happen again other times. A mistake could mean a serious risk to your health at best and your life at worst. Regardless of how long you've been in the AG industry safety training is paramount as there are a multitude of ways for one to become injured or be put in mortal danger on the farm. Often times we'll see tractors and machinery being the highest risk. Newer machinery is definitely safer but depending on the farm size and operation and tasks they're doing they may have older machinery. We know younger workers in older rate workers get injured more often whether it's the lack of training or complacency. Once they've done something for so long and now we're seeing a rise in ATV related injuries and we know this next year with the grain harvest in wet condition and being rushed with different things that when we go out to empty out those grain bins.

This year we're gonna see a lot of injuries related to either dusted molds or actually entrapments when they have to go inside the bin to break things loose.

Safety training for Ag workers could potentially cut down or eliminate accidents like these that could ultimately put a serious dent in your operations income so with farm accidents we see about 20 fatalities a year. They're the easiest ones to count the injuries are kind of hard but from reliable surveys the past few years we've noticed about 12% of farmers are injured with a serious injury so about one in ten farmers.

It comes to risk management in an AG operation many tend to think of production risk management

Risk management should also apply to safety measures laid out in the operations, standard operating practices, so safety should be a part of risk management when we think about risk management as I mentioned we oftentimes think about production risks but one of those that they consider under risk management is both human risk and legal risks and safety and health fit underneath both of those categories. A risk management plan is very crucial in maintaining your financial balance of your organization. One injury can make a huge impact on your bottom line while safety training is an important aspect of risk management it may not always be completely integrated into the culture of any given operation but actually formalizing your safety training into your risk management plan could make a world of difference for sure. So the biggest thing we talk about is safety training making sure we have our workers trained safely but then part of that is doing hazard analysis so figuring out where the biggest hazards are on our operation.

Thank you for reading my post.

I would like to invite three fellow Steemians to participate in the contest.

Thank you for verifying my post and feedback.

I agree with you. Training if farmers or farm workers is one of the best things to happen in agriculture. Thanks for sharing
