Organic farming is increasingly popular in the world and people are more aware on the impact of the food production on the health of the people and the environment. Organic farming as compared to conventional farming, does not involve the adoption of manufactured chemicals such as artificial fertilizers, pesticides, genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Instead it is interested in natural systems of replenishing its soil and crops: crop rotation, compost and natural control of pests.

Among the several benefits of organic farming, it has been proved that it enhances soil health. Organic farmers are improving the quality of soil by adding nutrients which increases its fertility and long term sustainability by avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers and replacing them with compost and green manure. Maintaining good soil results in healthy plants and increased yield as a long-term prospect, more so when it is accompanied by proper irrigation and weed control.

Another bright spot of organic food is that due to its perception of healthy eating and safety, it also attracts the consumers. Organically grown fruits, vegetables and grains have smaller chances of preserving residual chemicals. Organic produce is a cleaner alternative to lifestyle diseases that occur in a world where more people are becoming victims of life threatening diseases.

And environmentally, organic farming is also less polluting, ensures biodiversity and restricts green gaseous emissions. It aids to conserve bees, birds and useful bugs that are usually injured by chemical farming. It also consumes water more efficiently and decreases the possibility to pollute the rivers and lakes.

Although organic farming may be labor intensive and in the short run yield less, it is worth the investments in the long run. The subsidizing of the organic farming, training and creating awareness to the people, and organizations should also be encouraged by the governments and NGOs.

To sum it up, organic farming is not just a way of farming, it is a way of life or in other words, a way of observing sustainability, health, and protecting environment. Organic agriculture is one of the best steps to salvage the world in climate change situations and health related problems.
