Arrays of Agricultural topics 👉Choose-Write-Post#22
Agriculture is not what it used to be a long time ago, as agriculture is also going under a new regime, which is not only based on seeds and the ground, but on sensors, satellites, and software. Farming is going to be smart, efficient and data-driven. In world over, farmers are embracing technology with the aim of producing more food but in a less barbaric manner. This revolution is termed as smart farming and it is altering all that we believed about farming.
Smart farming employs the use of technologies such as GPS-controlled tractors, drones, and artificial intelligence to track the health of crops, soil state, weather conditions. Consider a farmer who can fly a drone over the fields and notice spots where he has a pest or diseased crop- way before the human eye could see it. Or imagine a mobile app that tells the farmer specifically how many liters of water or how many fertilizer nutrients each plant should have depending on the real time soil conditions. And it is not sci-fi anymore, it is reality of precision agriculture nowadays.
It is one of the most promising innovations the Internet of Things devices under usage. Field sensing is done by the use of sensors that gather information on soil moisture, temperature and crop growth. This information is then used to make good decisions on planting, irrigation and harvesting. The result? Increases in production revenues, reduction in wastes, and intelligent use of resources.
Smart farming also holds the promise in Africa and other developing areas. Technology has become a way out as climate changes and population surges to challenge food security. The use of mobile applications, solar-irrigation and online markets will enable the smallholders to increase productivity and reach new markets.
Yet to usher this future to everyone, the various obstacles such as high costs, low internet access and poor training should be overcome. Nevertheless, the movement is gaining steam. Farming is increasingly becoming innovative and appealing as more youths jump into the agriculture sector and adopt technology.
