Besides being a standard food, potatoes are a worldwide agricultural success and an ingredient in almost every type of cuisine. By looking at the photos, it is evident that making potato slices from raw tubers is straight-forward but enjoyable and demonstrates the crop’s uses around the world.

Solanum tuberosum or potatoes, grow underground and are believed to have first appeared in the Andean area of South America. Among all the food crops grown across the world today, they are second only to maize, wheat and rice. They are able to prosper in most soils and atmospheres, so potatoes suit both small farms and major farms.

Potatoes are amazing because they yield food with very little effort. They give more food for each square meter of land which is why they are vital for hunger and food insecurity. If everything is done correctly, one hectare of land can grow more than 20 tons of potatoes which supports many people around the globe.

And potatoes are considered a good source of B6, C vitamins, potassium and also fiber when you eat the skin. Not only are they foods, but they also help run the body and the economy.

Apart from food, potatoes make eco-friendly packaging materials, ethanol and can be used to produce biofuel.

Potatoes in farming are known for their toughness and the great amount they can produce. The path from the soil to our plates shows that plain-looking plants can often have a major effect.
