Agriculture and Me

1000002718.jpg

I have found agriculture to be incredibly helpful to me this week, mainly because of my involvement on my small farm. Among the images are those documenting my work, highlighting the mixed garden I worked on that included maize, beans and vegetables planted close to banana and palm trees. This approach increases how the land is used and makes food more available to families.

The progress the crops have made is one of the things I was most happy about this week. After doing weeding, ridging and watering every day, I can see that the beans and maize are healthy and growing well. It gives me a real sense of purpose and hope, thinking about the homegrown food I’ll have soon. Being able to plant these crops myself helps me cut food expenses, as living costs increase these days.

I also harvested a couple of vegetables earlier and used them at home before the week was over. You can taste the difference when you grow your own food it’s refreshing, tastes better and is good for you. Being on the farm has given me a way to work physically which feels productive and rewarding.

I have also benefited a lot from community connection. A number of neighbors visited to ask about my farming approach and we traded useful information. Because I had plenty of vegetables, I could help them and improve our connection.

All in all, this week has made clear the enormous impact agriculture has on all of us. It is more than earning or eating—it helps people feel rewarded, remains healthy, saves money and encourages community connections. If I keep tending to the harvest, I believe we will see many more benefits soon.
