Steem-Agro Drawing Contest 20: Agriculture Through Art
INTRODUCTION
MY DRAWING MATERIALS
• A paper
• HB Pencil
• Black Pen
• Eraser and sharpener
Colour pencils
DRAWING STEPS
Step 1:
I drew the long handle of the hoe. This is where a farmer or anyone handling the hoe holds unto while using it. It is usually made up of solid wood or metal.
Step 2:
I went further by drawing the neck of my hoe. This is the part that joined the handle of the hoe to the blade.
Step 3:
I drew the blade of the hoe. This is a very important part of the hoe as it is the part that does most of the hard work. It tills the soil, weeds grasses and carries some soil. This part has a curvy shape and it is always very sharp.
Step 4:
In my final step, I added finishing touches to my hoe by colouring the blade with black and the handle with brown colour.
USES OF THE HOE AS A FARMING TOOL
• It is used in weeding out unwanted plants that grow in our farm.
• It is also used in digging and preparing the soil for planting.
• The hoe can be used to cultivate and harvest root crops like yam, potatoes, vegetables, cocoyam etc.
• Before planting some crops, heaps or ridges are made and this is done by using the hoe.
• When mixing soil or even manure abd fertilizer inti the soil, the hoe is very useful
• The hoe can be used to shape the soil, that is, gathering of soil around the base of plants so that erosion or heavy rainfall doesn't wash away the plants.
CARING FOR THE HOE
• After using the hoe for the day, make sure you wash it or clean it properly, don't leave a hoe dirty after using it with soil on it.
• Keep your hoe in a dry place to avoid rust. Avoid leaving it under the rain.
• Sharpen your hoe when necessary. If not it won't work effectively.
