Hello my beloved Steemit family,
I'm very excited today to join this epic contest "My Tailor and I". It will interest you to know that here, I am the tailor myself. So I will be sharing some of the challenges we tailors otherwise called fashion designer now days likely faced.
It is true that every profession has its challenges, but today I want to take you into the world behind the humming sewing machine, the world of a tailor. For those who may have come across my post for the first time, I am Vicvine, a passionate fashion designer and a steemit choir mistress. Tailoring has become not just my career but my passion. Yet, the journey is not always smooth. Let me share some of the challenges we face daily in this beautiful but demanding craft.

Clients With High Expectations

As a tailor, one of the biggest challenges is meeting the endless expectations of clients. Sometimes a client comes with a picture of a celebrity outfit and says, “I want this exact design.” But what they don’t know is that fabric types, body shapes, and resources are not the same. Balancing their dream with reality is one of our toughest jobs. Even the money needed to provide corset for that design they won't have, but the expect you to make then exactly what they saw online and some won't even listen to you explanations. Also forgetting that not all dresses that look good on A will look good on B. Its one of the challenges we face.

Last-Minute Pressure

Some of the clients are always so so funny, they love deadlines rushing. Tailors live under them. It could be for a wedding, burial, or special occasion, and suddenly the client remembers their cloth just a day before. “Please, my tailor, just manage it for me.” 😅
This often means sleepless nights, long hours at the machine, and sometimes sacrificing personal comfort just to deliver. Because to maintain your reputation, we opt to deliver our clients and save their demands, but when it out of place, I will openly tell you, "please I don't think I will be able to deliver, just to avoid disappointment".

Machine and Power Failures

Just like drivers, or any one working with any mechanical equipment. Tailors are one of them, when your sewing machine decides to misbehave, it feels like betrayal. Add to that the challenge of power outages (especially here in Nigeria 🙆), and you will understand the frustration of being stuck with unfinished work and angry customers waiting. You will sweat inside with anyone noticing.

Clients Who Don’t Value Our Work

Another struggle is people underestimating the value of our craft. Some clients want “cheap sewing,” forgetting that tailoring involves creativity, time, skill, and energy. It hurts when people don’t see tailoring as the art it truly is.

Fabric Challenges

Alot of our clients wouldn't understand that Not all fabrics are friendly, even after explaining to them. Some are slippery, others too thick, and a few are so delicate that a small mistake ruins the entire material. Each fabric demands patience, skill, and careful handling. All they care is good and professional finishing and delivering. Some even beat down the prices not minding the time, creativity and sometimes risk that is involved in the work.

Despite all these challenges, I find joy in tailoring and I ensured that all my client are fully satisfied with my work. Every stitch is a story, every design a testimony of resilience. Nothing compares to the smile of a satisfied client, it makes all the stress worthwhile.

So yes, the challenges are many, but so are the victories. That is why I proudly say: I am Vicvine, and I am a tailor who turns fabric into confidence.

Let me be your tailor. I have my shop at Ifiayong Usuk in Uruan Local government area Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. It is located alone Amadung street opposite DEFAMCO hotel in Ifiayong Usuk.
