Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 91: My worst Traveling Experience
Travelling has always been a passion of mine. Whether it's for family visits or leisure vacations, the fun of exploring new places is unmatched. However, not all journeys go as planned. One particular trip stands out as my most challenging travel experience.
Some months ago, I was travelling back from Lagos to Uyo after spending the holidays with my family. Since I was using a bus, I had to get up early and prepare to embark on the journey. It is normally a very long journey, and vehicles are expected to leave as early as possible to get to their destination early.
The Unexpected
After preparing, I left home for the bus park, where I would board the bus. On getting there, there were no passengers on the ground; only one lady was ready to travel, so we waited for close to one hour to see if any passengers would arrive.
After waiting for some time, we decided to go. The driver said there were passengers waiting somewhere in another park, so we entered the bus and went to the park.
On getting to the park, we saw passengers that were ready to board the bus. We were happy, thinking we would leave early, but unbeknownst to us, the bus that took us to the park was not the bus we would travel with; we were to wait for another bus to come from another location. And knowing the traffic in Lagos, we knew we were in for time wasting. We waited for three hours before the bus arrived.
We now got to know that the vehicle had some issue, and even after arriving, it was discovered that the bus would not contain the passengers available. We were now packed in the bus like "sardines" or a journey that would last for more than 12 hours. I was very annoyed and frustrated due to the fact that I was uncomfortable throughout the journey.
The time we got to Uyo, it was very late because at each checkpoint we were stopped and checked, as their normal way to check for immigrants, smugglers and terrorists entering or leaving the country.
At some point everyone was asked to come down from the bus, even at night, knowing the dangers that come with it; robbery can even happen, and they who are supposed to protect the citizens will even run away, leaving the people helpless.I regretted everything that happened that day; I made up my mind to never use that bus company during my travels to avoid any delay or disappointment.
Lessons Learnt
Looking back on this experience, I realised the importance of contingency planning. Here are some tips I gathered:
Having a backup plan : Consider alternative routes or modes of transportation in case of unexpected delays.
Pack essentials: Keep snacks, water, and basic necessities handy for unforeseen situations.
Stay informed: Check the vehicle's condition and the company's track record before booking.
While this trip was far from ideal, it taught me valuable lessons about being prepared to avoid unnecessary disappointment.
I would love to invite @etoro @promisezella and @imohmitch to take part
