A Simple Yet Delicious Meal You Can Prepare as a Student.
Preparing Spaghetti With Mixed with Vegetable Sauce
Today na Sunday, and I no go church.
No be say I no love God oh 😅 — I just needed rest.
So I decided to use the free time to cook something that’ll scatter the normal hostel routine of rice–beans–garri.
Let me run you through how I made it, with real photos of each step because this one deserves documentation.
Ingredients I Used:
- 1 full pack of spaghetti
- Fresh pepper (ata rodo — e must choke)
- 1 onion
- Vegetable leaves (Ugu)
- Maggi cube
- Salt
- Crayfish
- Groundnut oil
- Just a pinch of curry and some spice — no tomatoes involved this time!
The big boys or those at home can add Meat, Fish, Egg or Sardine (me I manage wetin I get 😅)
Step 1: Boil Water
Started by putting water on fire — no jokes.
With hostel pot and NEPA behaving anyhow, time was of the essence.
Step 2: Wash Veg & Slice Onions
While waiting for the water, I washed my ugu and sliced my onions.
At this point, I already dey feel like chef small small.
We clean for this side
I did this without cutting stick
Step 3: Add Spaghetti
When the water started bubbling, I added salt and spaghetti.
Normally I like it long and flowing, but hostel pot no get that kind patience — so I broke it in two.
Step 4: Grind Pepper + Add Seasoning
No tomatoes today — just pepper and onion.
I blended that, added Maggi cube, a little curry, pinch of spice, and small crayfish to bring that flavor come alive.
Budget-friendly, but flavor-packed
Step 5: Sauce On Fire
Oil entered the pot. Pepper mix followed.
I fried it, added crayfish and seasoning, then tossed in the sliced ugu for final color and nutrition.
The aroma wey dey confuse my roommates, LOL
Step 6: Bowl Mixing
Instead of stirring everything inside one small pot, I used a bowl.
That way the spaghetti and sauce hugged each other properly 😌
Bowl mixing just dey make sense pass
Finally: Serve & Smile
When it was finally ready, omo, I just dey smile.
Even though it was a full pack of spaghetti, it fit perfectly inside that small pot this time.
Na economy dey humble everything these days 😩
After I finished cooking and eating, my roommate walked past, looked at my bowl and said:
“Omo! Guy abeg, help me run stew — I wan use am chop rice.”
Just like that, I became hostel chef of the day 😂
Well, as a student or just a single person and you're tired of repeating rice and beans, try this.
You go chop, relax, and even maybe inspire your roommates or neighbours.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever cooked something different or wild as a student or cooked something that caused your roommate or neighbour to hire you. Lol.
