●The best way to transmit an idea; movie or book
It is hard to say that ideas are best transmitted via a book or a movie because it sometimes depends on the idea. If the idea is a philosophical construct requiring a thorough or in-depth explanation of abstract ideas, I feel a book will be a better medium, but if the information or idea is action-packed, the visual and emotional impact of a movie will be a better medium.
Not forgetting the fact that what is best may also depend on who the targeted audience is. Considering the fact that these days, we have more literates compared to illiterates, it becomes more efficient to communicate an idea using a movie instead of a book.
It is obvious that a lot of people have watched the movie adaptation without knowing it came from a book published many years ago.
Which do you prefer?
Most of my academic information should come in a book format, but stories, tales of action, and science fiction should be acted out as a movie because movies can be more engaging and immersive, with visual and auditory elements that bring ideas to life.
At the end, I will prefer the screen version.
●The movie adaptation I watched
For this week, I will be presenting a screen adaptation called "The Martian". The movie is borrowed it's plot out of a novel bearing the same name as the movie, a book written by Andy Weir. The novel was adapted for the screenplay by Drew Goddard and directed by Ridley Scott, featuring a man stranded on Mars...

●Movie Cast
The movie's main characters
Mark Watney:
Mark Watney is the main protagonist in "The Martian". He is an astronaut and botanist. He was left on Mars when his crew mistakenly presumed he was dead during a storm that prompted an emergency abort mission. He had to device a way to stay alive in a hostile environment. Mark Watney was played by Matthew Paige Damon.
Melissa Lewis:
The mission commander for Ares III was also the groups geologist and oceanographer. After putting so much effort in her search for Mark Watney, she concluded that he was dead, you can feel her making the tough decision to evacuate. This character was played by Jessica Michelle Chastain..
Other supporting characters in the movie.
Vincent Kapoor:
The NASA's Director who was in charge of the Missions to Mars, he played a key role in coordinating the rescue efforts to save Mark Watney. Vincent Kapoor was played by Chiwetel Ejiofor
Jeff Daniels:
Jeffrey Warren Daniels played the role of Theodore Sanders, the Administrator of NASA who was not ready to take any risky rescue plan.
●Plot and setting of the movie.
The year is 2035, mission Ares III, consisting of a six-man crew, is on an exploration mission to Mars when all of a sudden they are hit by a violent storm. In the chaos, Mark Watney is knocked unconscious and swept away.
The mission commander make a frantic search but has to make a hard decision, their flight back hom is about to get damaged, assuming Mark Watney is dead, she saves the rest of the screw by ordering an evacuation.
When Mark Watney snaps out of the unconscious state, he is alone, stranded on Mars and has to find a way to call home and stay alive till rescue comes.

He had to deploy all his survival skills and improvise a lot of things to stay alive.
●The movie compared to the book
Judging from my observation"The Martian" movie closely follows the book by Andy Weir. Both the movie and the book concentrates on Mark's improvisation, ingenuity and determination. In both cases i could feel Mark's struggle to survive on Mars after being stranded.
Differences:
When reading from the book, i could realy feel Mark's inner thoughts, his conflicting ideas, you feel the struggle in his inner monologue, while the movie emphasises his actions. The storm that resulted in Mark Watney getting stranded is more dramatic in the movie compared to the book.
As usual, the book provides more depth and detail, while the movie brings out the drama.
●if I were to write a book on the movie
While the book is already very descriptive, I will take my time to describe events such that the reader will feel the place and time of the event. Describing events with more details and emotion.

An interesting analysis of a book to screen.
I will create time to go through the piece with the link you supplied because I am curious about how Mark Watney, the major protagonist was finally rescued. Well done!
