Today's task looked simple because it was easy to describe with the words "replacing the bug screener".

In the hot tropical climate of southern Nigeria, we have a large population of bugs of different types. We use nets as bug screeners to keep them outside. The use of aerosol-insecticide has its limitations and is expensive, but a bug screen will work, and it is inexpensive in the long run. Nets like this keep mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and other harmful bugs out of the house.
Don't worry about ventilation and lighting; the bug screener allows 95 % of incoming light and breeze into the house; it only keeps the bugs out.

Today's task was a total of three windows, one in the kitchen and two in the room. I would love to show you the state of the net before work began and what it looked like after work for easy comparison.

Being dressed like this was not a criteria for accomplishing the task; I was just in the spirit of the job. What was really needed here was the screwdriver 🪛 .
The screw and the net were the materials that got consumed during the job.

What was really needed was this screwdriver for driving the screws, the screws to hold the net to the aluminium window and the net itself. Even the toolbox was not necessary. It was simply there to help me carry other things I may need, but I ended up not using them.

With the screwdriver, I could unscrew and bring down the old net on its frame. They were Philips scrows and were easy to unscrew. Some windows had only 4 screws, while others had up to six.

I needed space on a levelled floor to remove the old net and fix the new one. The net was attached to the frame using a rubber that pressed into a grove around the edge of the frame. I had to carefully remove the rubber because I was planning to reuse it.

After removing the old black net, I now had to lay the new blue net to the net holder using the same fastening rubber I removed earlier. To have a good finish, the net has to be stretched over its frame, such that you will have no wrinkles or twisted segments.

Pull to get a good tension the fasten in place with the rubber. This makes sure the net doesn't sag or have wrinkles. Two skilled hands will do it, else you may need up to 4 hands for this process.

The excess net had to be trimmed off the edge of the net holder. Be careful not to cut the stretched net. It will mean repeating the work all over.

Once the new net is mounted on its holder, it's time to mount everything on the window using the screws; make sure you find the correct orientation.

Try to firmly screw the net holder to the window frame, reducing any crawling space for insects to pass. Some insects will locate any small space to squeeze in. So I had to make sure all gaps were closed.

This is the finished work for the window in the kitchen. It was the largest of all three windows. I was worried if the size of the replacement net would be enough for its large size. The quality of the net I used is stretchy.

This was the coolest side of the room because it had a beautiful paint coating. I captured most of the pictures here

This was the window that gave me the hardest time fixing it.

I would love to have the following Steemian comment on the presentation and the finished work. @okere-blessing, @dequeen and @josepha
