What do you understand by the word wisdom?

In my understanding, "Wisdom" also known as Sapience, is the ability to apply knowledge, experience, and good judgment to navigate life's complexities. In other words, Wisdom can also be explained as the quality of having a good judgement based on knowledge. Wisdom is the most important thing to acquire and value, with understanding being a key companion. According to the book of "Proverbs 4: 27" in the bible, it says that Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom and with all thy getting get understanding". Wisdom is a reasoning skill that allows you to choose the right things, at the right time, for the right reasons. So when you have wisdom, you make the right decisions at a given time.

Do you think great wisdom comes with age or anyone can possess it?

Wisdom isn't mainly determined by age, but rather by the accumulation of knowledge, experience, and a capacity for good judgment, which can be cultivated by anyone regardless of their age. It's true that older individuals often have more life experience, which can contribute to wisdom. However, this doesn't mean that all older people are wise, or that younger people cannot be. Yes, Wisdom can come with age, but it isn't a door prize for all aged people out there. Wisdom is a continuous journey of learning, growth and self reflection. Anyone can possess and acquire wisdom, both the young and old because it's a key factor to new ideas, perspectives, and experiences.

If wisdom should come with age, do you agree that all elders are wise?

Age and experience can contribute to wisdom, but it's inaccurate that all elders are wise because wisdom does not depend on age. If wisdom should come with age, I will disagree that all our elders will be wise. This is because not all older individuals are necessarily wise, and some younger individuals can exhibit wisdom. The idea that wisdom comes with age is cultural, but it is not necessarily true.

There's no guarantee that age alone can actually lead to wisdom. One reason why older people are often portrayed as wise is that they have had more time to accumulate life experience and learning, which can help them develop a broader perspective and deeper insights into human nature and the world. However, it is important to note that wisdom is not necessarily tied to age, and there are many examples of young people who exhibit great wisdom and insight.

What is your personal understanding of elders possessing wisdom?

There's a reason most societies revere their elderly, treating them as reservoirs of wisdom and knowledge. They're not just sharing anecdotes from a bygone era, but they're sharing life's distilled essence. If you've ever sat down with an older person, you'll notice their stories often have a consistent theme about resilience and recession. We should respect our elders and listen to the wisdom that they have to share, the wisdom that they've accumulated over the years. Our elders tends to accumulate, possess more wisdom and knowledge because they have lived more years on earth and also have experiences of life more than the younger ones. In addition, wisdom for the older ones are very crucial in one's life, because " What an elder sees sitting down, a child cannot see it even if he climbs an iroko tree".
