Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 99: Over Indulgence in Consumables-(Gluttony).
Explain the gluttony and how a person with such behaviours can be identified.
Gluttony is the over-indulging and the lacking control of the need to eat or imbibe more than is required usually with the motive to eat or drink to get pleasure not as a result of hunger. It is viewed as being one of the seven deadly sins, a manifestation of not being in control of self, lacking in discipline. An individual who exhibits a character of a glutton might often eat when he or she is satisfied or agonize by gulping down mass or devouring by the fixation.
Also, they may be focused more on food than their duties or relationships. Physical symptoms may consist of an apparent weight gain, over-eating, etc. There is also the emotional aspect whereby such an individual will experience a sense of guilt or shame after eating, but still engage in the practice. Eating is not the only problem of gluttony, as this entails much more of emotional or psychological issues that have to be addressed and taken cared of through self-awareness, proper habits, or professional assistance.
Do you think gluttonous person can be liked to just food and drinks? Explain.
No, it cannot be reduced to a person who is gluttonous only when they talk about food and drinks. Though gluttony is normally used in reference to being excessively indulged when eating or drinking, the real meaning of gluttony is an excess which is expressed by grasping at more than is required or is wanted. One can also be gluttonous with entertainment, shopping, social media or even with attention seeking more than it is necessary to emotionally or psychologically gratify needs.
This kind of behavior characteristically represents one being out of control or trying to fill an internal emptiness. Thus, gluttony can be applied to all areas of life not only food. It is worth noting this generalized view of gluttony to bring into perspective that gluttony entails the issue of imbalance and over-dependence and so, it is necessary to change the diet but also to exercise self-control and emotional insight.
What's your view of this? Do you think it's a natural situation or something one can manage or control? Tell us.
In my perspective, gluttony is one of the behaviors which can be controlled and managed though sometimes it might seem natural. It is a common way of coping with stress or boredom and this is what people respond by turning to excess, may it be food, entertainment, or other pleasures. These urges may turn out to be habitual but this does not mean that they cannot be controlled.
People can halt the circular process with insight, self-control and in some cases, with the assistance of professionals. It is not a natural state of thing to be tolerated, but it is a situation that can be beaten. The most prominent way to address gluttonous tendencies is to make deliberate lifestyle changes, develop emotional strength, and find support.
What's advise do you have for people who find themselves in such a condition?
The admission of the behavior without shame is the initial step towards getting rid of greed among the struggling persons. Realize that excesses are usually the results of some emotional or psychological needs. The first step is to identify what your triggers are boredom, stress, loneliness and come up with healthier ways of dealing with them, exercise, journal, talk to someone you trust.
Eat consciously: eat slowly, savor the flavor and enjoy the food and pay attention to your body when it really needs food, and when your body tells you it is full it is time to stop. That can be done by setting reasonable goals and having a systematized process. When you need it seek the support of a professional, a nutritionist, therapist or a support group. Keep in mind that transformation is about time and every little bit helps. Gluttony can and should be curbed through the steps of time and perseverance henceforth resulting in a healthier and balanced life.
