What does humility mean to you? Explain.

I feel that being humble involves admitting my shortcomings and appreciating the advantages and viewpoints of other people. Being able to admit that I don’t have every answer and still be open to gaining new knowledge from anyone.

Humble people listen and respond gently to suggestions, accept their errors gracefully and do not feel ashamed to admit when they are wrong. I should try to place ego aside so I can establish real relationships and learn more about myself. So with humility, people are encouraged to cooperate and value others’ skills. This character shows confidence but not arrogance, as it helps someone improve all the time and at the end of the day, being humble assures me that every person matters and is worth going to, just like me, but no one is better than anyone else.

Do you think all quiet people are humble?

Quietness does not always mean a person is humble. Being quiet is a difference in personality, unlike humility which depends on a personal choice and a way of thinking. Some people stay quiet for different reasons such as shyness, introversion or simply observing and being quiet doesn’t necessarily mean they are humble.

At the same time, a modest person can feel sure of themselves and talk easily, but they are also respectful, open-minded and eager to learn. A person is humble when they take responsibility for mistakes, think highly of others and don’t try to be in the spotlight for personal reasons. Therefore, a person can be humble even if they aren’t quiet and quiet people can also be talkative.

State the characteristics of a humble person.

A humble person wants to improve and find out new things. They accept that their skills are not perfect and have no trouble saying they need help or admitting their own mistakes. They respect everyone, regardless of where they are in life and listen without judging their words. Rather than bragging, humble people prefer to let others realize their humility through what they do.

They recognize other people’s achievements and look forward to watching them succeed. Being grateful, understanding and aware of themselves are major traits they have. They are willing to listen to feedback and other people’s thoughts. To be humble is not to lessen one’s self-worth; it means being sensible and fair with oneself while staying decent and respectful in all talks and actions.

What do you admire about humble people? Explain.

What I like most about humble people is their calm strength and real character even though they aren’t always in the spotlight, they usually make the greatest difference. The reason their environment is positive and respectful is because they are humble, squeeze in apologies and respect everyone. I admire their eagerness to learn, since they do not let pride get in the way.

No matter how successful they become, humble people always help others and don’t lose their ground. And they don’t brag or shout their confidence because they just keep it quiet and calm. Their leadership quality shows that being kind, respectful and aware of themselves has a long-lasting positive effect.

What turns you off in proud people? Tell us.

The thing that bothers me in proud people is how often they treat others with contempt and seem to think they are always correct. Having excessive pride usually causes people to feel too proud which prevents them from admitting their mistakes or taking useful advice. When someone does this, they may usually start conversations, ask for attention all the time or claim work done by others, making it feel like the relationship is only one-way.

Proud individuals can overlook others’ views which often makes their company feel unacknowledged or ignored. Because of this attitude, emotions are segregated instead of being united. The thing that bothers me the most is when a person focuses on their self-image so much that they never make an effort to improve themselves. It’s not easy to reach out to a person who puts their ego before their empathy.

Are you a humble person? What defines you? Tell us

I do think I am a humble person. I think it’s important to listen, gain knowledge and treat every person honorably. I consider myself equal to anyone and I am always eager to learn from feedback. The key things that set me apart are my desire to be better, my empathy for people and my capacity for remaining steady whatever comes my way.

I pay attention to others’ opinions, mark successes in other people’s lives and confess when I make a mistake. Humility, to me, makes me stronger; it shows that there’s always a chance to learn, share and grow, while still being genuine and assisting others.

MOD Comment/Recommendation:
To be honest, I love your definition of humility. You've explained beyond being lowly or coming down from one's high horse. It has much to do with maturity and selfless service without giving undue attention to oneself.
