'Why You Act the Way You Do'
Hey, everyone. I hope you all are well. I want to share these with you guys, and i know someone out there might be going through the same thing...
While reading 'Why You Act the Way You Do' by Tim LaHaye, I paid more attention to the melancholy temperament because I observed that I’m more melancholic than any other temperament.
He mentioned that people with the melancholy temperament tend to be very, very self-aware or self-conscious. They always feel like someone is watching them or talking about them. He even gave an example of a man who walked up to him and his wife while they were talking and asked if they were discussing him.😆
And sincerely, I can relate. Being that I’m introverted and a bit reserved, which is also a characteristic of the melancholy, I’ve noticed I’m usually very self-aware. Yes, sometimes when people are talking, I feel like they’re discussing me. When I’m passing people and I feel their eyes are on me, I become so conscious that I miss my step. Yes, I do. I miss my step when I’m walking past a group of people. At some point, I felt like this was a very big problem that I had to work on.
But later on, I learned something that helped me. I realized that for me to overcome this pattern, I have to remind myself that people are busy. Yes, people are really busy with their lives.
In reality, you don’t really matter in the scheme of things. People are trying to figure out their lives, chase their goals, and solve their problems. Nobody is really watching you, or judging you, or checking what you’re wearing or what you’ve been up to.
Another thing is to build your confidence. Be confident in yourself. You don’t have to be perfect.
You are good. You are okay the way you are.
And also, stay around people you feel safe with, people who make you feel accepted.
It helps a lot to overcome this challenge, if that's the right word.
I just felt like sharing this because I know I'm not alone in this. Someone out there might be going through the same thing.
Just know you're okay the way you are and do not need to be overly conscious or too careful of what others think about you.
Thanks to you all, and have a wonderful day.
