INTRODUCTION

Life is full of challenges. Sometimes we go up, sometimes we go down. Sometimes we smile, sometimes we cry. Sometimes we gain, while sometimes we lose. These are the experiences we get as we journey through the path of life. As we grow and aspire for greater heights, so does challenges and more responsibilities come up.

I am yet to see a person who never in this life, lost anything either knowingly or unknowingly. The loss could be money, it could be the loss of a loved one, it could the loss properties. So in one way or the other looking back, we may have something that we wished we never loss.

Loss is phenomenon that happens whether we are prepared for it or not. When it happens depending on what is been lost and the degree of the loss, it comes with pains that may lead to sheding of tears.

When I Lost 3.5 Million Naira In A Failed Business Deal, I Cried Helplessly

Having financial losses is one of the losses that when you incure it, may not be easily recovered from. It could lead to different kinds of unhealthy developments such as increasing the blood pressure or one taking his own life. This could be the case if the the money is borrowed or is collectively owned by a way of contribution.

Mine was a case between me and one of my friends who I trusted so much. We went the same higher institution and live very close to one another. He deals on ICT gadget sales and computing. He told he wants to travel abroad and so was looking for a way to raise some money for it. I steped backwards looking at him. In my mind said ‘why would you want to travel when you have a business that is positioned in a site and attracts clients and customers alike.’ I asked him why he wanted to travel and he said he wanted to go and hunt for better opportunities. I said ok, it is your decision to make.

We have known each other for quite a long time and this solidified our friendship. I said ok since you want travel let me buy up the ICT equipments and other items used in the business as it would help you to raise some of the money you need to travel out. He accepted and I started buying the computer machines, the desks, printers, lyster that generates light. I paid for everything that I needed to run the business there. Everything I bought was a total of 3.5 Million naira. I liked the ICT business and the office is situated where clients and customers were trooping in. So I hpoed to recover my investment.

After paying for these items we prepared a document for it though without a lawyer. I did not know that his visa and other requirements he needed to travel were set. Three days after I made the payments, I came around to the office to collect the keys in order to continue the business as we agreed. Lo and behold, the office were under lock and key and had given it to someone else. I tried calling him in phone and it was switched off. I contacted his neighbors and relatives and they told me he had traveled. My heart began to breath faster than normal and I realized an unusual weakness in my system. My eyes were turning dark red and tears starts rolling down my chicks.

I tried all I could to get the keys at least to pack those equipments out as it was clear now to me that, he did not want to handover the office to me. I could not get the key after all! Disappointingly to me, He had handedover the office key to someone else to takeover. Hmmmm.......! This was a big challenge to me.

After six, months, the office was rented out and I was called by the landlord to come and pack items outof the office. We fixed a date for it. On the said date I got there, as the office was opened, most of the items I bought had gone bad even beyond repair. I looked up and down and there was nothing I could do because the young man has gone out of the country. I hired a vehicle and packed those items out to a rented room. There was no way for to continue the busniness in that environment where parked the ICT equipments. So finally, I started selling them off far more below the prices I paid.

How The Loss Affected Me

Incuring financial loss is easy, but to recover or recoup the loss is not easy. All my hope was to carry on the business and by so doing, would recover my investment. But this did not happen! Seeing the money that took me years to save lossing to a trusted friend, was shocking to me. Lossing a whooping 3.5 Million naira brought me down financially. And now, it became as if I were starting life from below again. Nobody go into business anticipating a loss. But then to an extent, I blamed myself at least, a particular reason of not invving a lawyer.

It Is Now A Bygone!
I have chosen to make treat this as a bygone. have forgotten the pains because I believe that divinity would be on my side to make more money than I have lost.
But anytime the young man comes around or I see him, I may reactivate the case.

My Advice To The Public

From my case and experience, I would always advice people to involve a lawyer even in the smallest form business and even with your own blood relatives.
