My Painful Experience in The Hospital, My Mother's Death!
Experience in The Hospital, My Mother's Death!
Each and everyday, people go through a lot of health problems. Some of the health problems may be minor ones which may just be collecting blood samples to conduct tests to discover the actual health problem. Thereafter, prescriptions and treatment commences.
On the other hand, a major health problem could require undergoing surgery which is a matter of coming out alive or coming out dead. This is the case of my mother who after spending huge amount of money on, still gave up the ghost. Even as I am writing this post, tears are dropping from my eyes.
Losing my virtuous mother to death is what I could not have imagined this time! How the health problem that took her life started was not such anyone could think of taking her life.
At a particular point in time, she lost appetite and could not eat, urinate and defecate. Any time she tried to take some food in, she vomits it. She was given some medicines to remediate the condition but was not responding. As she was losing strength due lack of food and energy in system, some oral hydration was prepared and given to her. the hydration helped to gain her some strength.
As the medications and other treatments continued, she was not responding. We now rushed her to the hospital to find out and treat whatever the problem could be. The necessary admission requirements were fulfilled and she was admitted to the hospital.
The doctor came and conducted some checks on her. He found out that my mother had some intestine complications and that is why she could neither eat nor pass out wastes. He gave her some needed injections for the intestine complications and drips to make her start eating and pass out waste. This could not solve the problem. We were all sad with this non response to treatment.
At that point, the doctor came up with an option for surgery. We all accepted just to ensure that my mother would be free from her health challenge. We also fulfilled all necessary requirements for the surgery to be carried out.
The doctor carried out the surgery successfully and we all were happy for it and expected that there would be improvement. As we all know, surgery patients do not just start eating immediately. They would be given some days before even taking semi solid food.
After some days , she started being fed with little quantity of pap. She drank the pap and yet, her system could digest it and the pap passed out through pipe that ran through her nose. I became more worried about this health condition. Imagine since more than two weeks and some days, nothing like food entered her stomach! Even the drips she was taking was still passing out undigested.
Again, tears started rolling down from my eyes looking at what this woman was passing through. Another surgery was recommended for, by the doctor to really ascertain the problem again and fix it. We also agreed and signed necessary documents for the surgery. This time, it would be the second surgery my mother would be going through within two weeks. She came out successfully and we all expected that there would be improvement this time.
During this time, I had sleepless nights and I was bitten severely by the mosquitoes.
The problem continued as she could not still take in food after the second surgery was done. It dawned on me when the doctor said he has done all he could do within his knowledge as a professional surgeon, to find solution to this problem. He reffered us to another hospital outside the state to further look into the case. At this time, I and my siblings have lost hopes after spending huge amount of money to save the woman.
My mother was discharged and brought back home. Her food was the drips that she was given by a nurse we contacted. We started to raise some funds to move her to the reffered hospital outside the state. In the course of raising the funds after 24 hours of discharging her, she started breathing so fast and went unconscious. Here again tears was rolling down my eyes looking at my mother gradually passing away. By the early hours of the next morning, she passed away!
I couldn't imagine my mother passing away at this time even though is a aged over 80 years. Even at this age before her death, she was stronger and healthier and doing some works that even the younger ones could not do. And this is my pain! I believed that she had a little more years to live but, I didn't know this was how she would pass away.
She was indeed, a virtuous woman and real icon of a mother. Yes she aged, but the vacuum she left behind is huge. I miss her so deeply and so dearly.
O my God, this is such a painful thing to witness. I could only imagine the sadness and pain of losing a mother. My sincere condolences and may her soul rest in peace.
