What do you understand by being "Misunderstood"?

Misunderstanding is the situation when you don't have the ability to comprehend the message or information conveyed to you. This mostly happens to older people. In fact, you need to elaborate on what you are about to say to them so that they can fully understand the message you are trying to convey.

Incorrect statements often lead to disagreements between two people and if care is not taken, it may lead to conflict. Misinterpretation or wrong information has a negative impact because the individuals you want to pass the information to may not clearly understand the information that would be useful to you and them.

Have you found yourself in such a situation, if yes, kindly share with us your experience.

This occurred in our office when one of the women we are working with had a health condition. The woman slept and woke up to urinate. By the time she came back, she felt unwell. I couldn't handle the situation, so I needed to seek help from other members. With their assistance, she recovered, and they later took her to the hospital for treatment. I was so afraid because I had never witnessed such a thing in my entire life. The following day, I saw her sister, who had already heard about the situation and wanted to meet me so I could tell her about the condition.

During the moment I was trying to tell her what happened, she was busy with her laptop, so I left the place. After more than 2 weeks, she came back and told someone that I did not give her accurate information about the scenario. I was angry with her because the time I should have spent on a productive day I diverted to unnecessary matters.

How did you feel and how did you handle the misconception?

When the woman fully recovered and told me about what her sister said about the situation, I felt annoyed and I just kept quiet. If I talk, it may lead to something else I do not like, which is a fight. I learned to be patient because that's the best way to handle all the scenarios. I sat at the office table, looked at the sky, and smiled because that was what the woman always did, they just want to frustrate you on this matter of not comprehending the information correctly.

Is there any advice you would love to give to your readers so they don't find themselves in your shoes.

The advice I would like to give my readers is to first of all understand the message, whether they pass it to you or you pass it to them. Ascertain the truth; it helps in many cases. Try as much as possible to explain again and again to the person who wants to listen to your message. In fact, it's necessary to ask them back what you said to them. If they reply successfully, it means that they understand the information you passed to them.

Doing that prevents misunderstandings or disagreements that occur between the speaker and listeners. Understanding one another is considered as effective communication, which can positively allow each other to comprehend the message perfectly.
