Our National Zoo was established on August 23, 1974, covering an area of 186 acres (75 hectares). About 10,000 visitors arrive here every day. The vast open space, diverse environment, green forests, everything is crowded with domestic and foreign tourists.The number of visitors here increases even more on weekends and special days.
There are so many animals here that more than 20 lakh taka is spent on food for the animals here every month. Dhaka National Zoo is famous for its diverse animals. In a 2022 survey, it was seen that there were about 4972 pieces of animals from 191 species here. But two years later, in the 2024 survey, the number of animals decreased to 2150. Perhaps the number of animals decreased due to age, or it may also be that the number of animals here has decreased due to carelessness. Whatever the reason, it is true that the number of animals has decreased.
The main animals that attract attention here include the famous Royal Bengal Tiger, foreign lions, hippos, nilgai, hyenas, bears, crocodiles, zebras, flamingos, cormorants, kingfishers, charming peacocks, white crows and many more animals.
The zoo is located in a place where you can easily travel from any part of the country. The communication system to get here is quite good. You can get here by any means of transport, including buses and private cars. You can get off and on in front of the zoo gate.
To visit the zoo, you have to purchase a ticket for a nominal price. Each ticket costs 30 taka. As soon as you enter, you will see signboards with directions at various places. Also, a brief introduction about the animal is given in front of each animal's cage. A lot of information about the animal is available here too.
I have already said that Dhaka Zoo covers an area of 186 acres. It is almost impossible to visit this huge zoo in one day. And the entire zoo has to be explored on foot. Naturally, after walking for a while, you need to take a break. So, there are numerous places to sit and rest.
There are countless trees throughout the zoo. The zoo is an ideal place to enjoy the fresh air of nature under the shade of trees. Different types of fruits can be seen in each season. The time I traveled was during jackfruit season. There are countless jackfruits on the jackfruit trees. The smell of jackfruit fills the air.
The zoo is not only an animal sanctuary, but also has a large number of birds. More than 1,500 birds of 91 species are found here, including peacocks, rheas, African, gray parrots, cassowaries, owls, ostriches, emus, teal finches, abacuses, owls, vultures and many more.
Dangerous animals like snakes are also found here. Here, 13 species of reptiles including snakes and crocodiles and 28 species of fish can be seen.
Apart from this, there is a children's park, a picnic area, a huge lake where the water is clear and sparkling. There is also a zoological museum here. Where rare animal fossils can be found.
The National Zoo, a meeting place for the extraordinary beauty of nature, is open from 9 am to 6 pm every day. There are many food shops and fast-food shops here. Although the prices in these shops are a little high, nature lovers do not mind this extra price to enjoy.
There is also a mosque for prayer, a playground, and a separate place for horse riding.All in all, Dhaka Zoo is an ideal place for entertainment and to introduce the new generation to nature. There are many necessary elements to learn or learn from here.
You captured the joy of visiting the zoo really well, and the variety of photos added a lot of color to your post. Recently I also visited to our national zoo, and it looks most of the animals are common to both the countries. Good Luck!
@damithudaya sir,
All zoos have roughly the same types of animals and birds. However, the rules for their maintenance vary from place to place.
Thank you for your encouraging comments.
