Redefining Quality Posts on Steemit: A Reflection |

Since I joined the Steemit platform in May 2017, discussions about quality posts have continued to occur among Steemians and the community. Long discussions sometimes get heated. I still remember, the friction between the community at that time was very high. There were even physical threats conveyed in the conversation in the posts.

On the one hand, the discussions and debates made people more familiar with Steemit, especially since there were many meetups at that time. Unfortunately, the long debates failed to provide a long-term positive impact on the growth of Steemit. Many famous writers in Aceh and even Indonesia who wrote on Steemit at that time, many photographers, journalists, lecturers, and various professional circles who were active on Steemit at that time, now no longer make posts. They became Steemit retirees.

In several meetings, I often invited them back, including the person who introduced Steemit to me. However, they were no longer moved to become Steemians again.

There were many reasons, ranging from the price of #steem and #sbd which were not as high as before, losing enthusiasm and momentum, to differences in attention to community growth. They make quality posts, but don't get the curation they deserve. While other posts that are made carelessly, with bad grammar, with poor photo quality, and bad content, actually get high curation.

This is a sensitive debate and will never end. I want to focus on the quality of the posts, because curators often mention it, such as when choosing quality posts as challenge winners.

Is it true that the winner of a challenge is a quality post? As a writer and journalist who is often a competition judge and already has a national jury certification from the National Professional Certification Agency in Indonesia, I see that not all of them are like that.

The quality in question is not clearly defined from what aspect. That's the first problem. The second is about the quality and capacity of the assessor. Sometimes, the assessor also doesn't have the capacity to assess a post, even their own posts are below standard and if sent to the article or photography column in the mass media, they won't pass the selection.

In several meetups, I often suggest that the phrase "quality post" as the winner of the challenge, be replaced with "selected post" because it is closer to reality. This redefinition will make Steemians understand better.

However, attention to quality posts assessed by quality curators is also important and continues to be maintained. With this kind of consistency, we hope this platform will continue to grow.[]
