The inauguration of the elected pair of mayor and deputy mayor of Langsa which was left hanging until the first week of May 2025, left a lot of residue when viewed from various aspects. Although this is a political moment, the impact it has is not only in the political field, but also legal, and of course social and economic.

From the aspect of social and economic life, the people of Langsa also bear the consequences of the postponement of the inauguration of the mayor/deputy mayor of Langsa from the 2024 Pilkada, namely the pair Jeffry Sentana s. Putra and M. Haikal Alfisyahrin.

The wheels of government are not running optimally. The acting mayor, although he has a number of authorities, does not have a mandate from the people of Langsa. In this transition period, everything is half-hearted, everyone takes a wait and see position because they are worried that the decisions taken will be annulled or not in line with the policies of the definitive mayor.

Even investors have to postpone investment decisions because they are waiting for the presence of officials who will lead Langsa City for the next five years.

From a legal aspect, this is the impact of the weakness of regulations in Aceh which are different from other regions in Indonesia. Cases like those in Langsa City will certainly not occur in other regions throughout Indonesia because the regulations are different.

Based on Article 70c of Law Number 11/2006 concerning the Government of Aceh, the inauguration of the mayor and deputy mayor is carried out in a plenary session of the DPRK. Well, this has the potential to be politically obstructive when the council's supporting apparatus has not been formed due to competing interests.

So far, the Langsa DPRK has not implemented the scheduling of a plenary session according to the mechanism of Government Regulation Number 12/2018 concerning Guidelines for the Preparation of Provincial and Regency/City DPRD Rules of Procedure, namely through the Deliberative Body.

Reportedly, the Aceh Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs have facilitated this turmoil four times so that the inauguration can be carried out immediately. However, they have not reached a solution agreed upon by the political elite in Langsa City.

If the information circulating is that the core of this problem is only a matter of division of positions at the Langsa DPRK level, it is truly unfortunate that the wheels of government and all its interests have to be held hostage by the interests of the division of power which can actually still be discussed.

In the midst of this stagnation, sources in the Aceh Government said that there had been a meeting point within the Langsa DPRK, including an agreement on the formation of the council's supporting apparatus.

It is hoped that in May 2025, the council's supporting apparatus can be formed in the Langsa DPRK and a plenary session can be held immediately. All parties must reduce and control their ambitions. The interests of the people must be above all personal and group interests. When power is fought over more than used to serve, then the people are no longer masters in a democracy, but rather sacrifices of ambition.[]
