Beware of the Eid Homecoming Flow to Make it Safer and More Comfortable |
The Aceh Regional Police (Indonesia) reported a sharp decline in the number of Eid homecoming accidents during the eight days of Operation Ketupat Seulawah 2025 in Aceh. Compared to the same period last year, the decline in the number of accidents fell by 28 percent.
In the same period in 2024, there were 47 traffic accidents with 20 fatalities, eight serious injuries, and 51 minor injuries. Meanwhile, in the same period in 2025, there were 34 accidents with 12 fatalities and 46 injuries.
The decline in accidents is the result of hard work from all parties, starting from the government building adequate infrastructure, the police maintaining the security and comfort of homecoming, to increasing awareness of traffic users.
However, there are still fatalities even though it shows a sharp decline, it still causes deep sadness, especially for the families of the victims. This condition proves that traffic is not completely safe and comfortable during the homecoming season which is usually denser than on normal days.
Various studies have shown that the number of accidents is more due to human factors. The rest is due to factors of vehicles that are not roadworthy, damaged roads due to holes, slippery roads, or poor geometry. There are also environmental aspects such as bad weather or the presence of herds of animals crossing.
For some areas in Aceh, the presence of herds of animals crossing suddenly is quite common. Low awareness of protecting livestock can have fatal consequences for traffic users. There are still herds of wild animals that often cross roads in forest areas. Early warning is needed from related institutions.
If traffic awareness is higher and infrastructure is better like in new countries, the number of accidents can certainly be reduced to a minimum and can even reach zero percent. This achievement is not impossible if all parties increase their respective awareness to realize safe traffic.
The return flow that has started to occur and is estimated to peak on Sunday, April 6, 2025, must be a concern for all parties. Road users are expected to arrange their schedules in detail so that they do not get caught in long traffic jams. Incentives provided by various parties such as toll rate discounts can encourage residents to return earlier so that they are not concentrated on the last day of the Eid holiday.
Everyone hopes that there will be no accidents on the return flow. However, this hope must be accompanied by hard work from all parties, especially the travelers themselves. The condition of the vehicle must be ensured to be ready to travel long distances and maybe even heavy.
The health condition of the users must also be a concern because the trip requires strong physical strength and full concentration. Only through thorough preparation and awareness from all parties can the return trip be carried out safely, orderly, and comfortably.[]
