Greetings friends,
Today I will talk about an animal in our country that was a friend of farmers to protect crops from rats. The lizard is actually not a snake, it is a lizard. There are many species of them. Among them, three types of lizards were once abundant in our region: yellow, golden, and dark brown or black.

The lizard can be seen everywhere in the country, especially around farmers' houses and in crop fields and small bushes. The main food of the cobra is crabs, snails, rats, frogs, fish, and chickens in the farmer's house. The poison of this animal is not harmful to humans, they use this poison to catch their prey. Their saliva contains a large amount of bacteria. These animals are seen everywhere, especially during the rainy season.

People in rural areas still think that the animal is poisonous and dangerous. People in many areas think that they spray poison at people through their spit. People in some areas think that the tail of the cobra is poisonous. The animal hits people with its tail, and people can die because of that poison. 'People in rural areas often kill cobras to make poetic medicine. It is also heard that talismans are made from the tail of the cobra, and various medicines including asthma oil are made from its fat. But these medicines have no scientific basis, through which some unscrupulous people are cheating the simple people of the country. The skin of the cobra is of quite high quality and expensive. It is in great demand in the world market. Therefore, vanity bags, money bags, and belts are made from its skin.

A report by the Export Promotion Bureau shows that in the fiscal year 1978-79, 51 lakh 43 thousand taka of guisap skin was exported from the country. Which means that at that time, guisap was killed on a mass scale across the country. Most of them are being beaten to death. Apart from this, there are allegations that poachers are still hunting guisap and secretly smuggling its skin abroad.

In addition, some communities also kill guisap for food. Sometimes guisap raids farmers' houses in search of food. Then the animal is beaten to death. Apart from this, the destruction of breeding grounds and habitat is another reason for the decline of guisap.

According to the Wildlife (Conservation and Protection) Act-2012 of Bangladesh, guisap is protected. Therefore, killing, hunting, or harming it is a punishable offense. Of the three species of vipers, the Ramgadi or Black Viper is listed as ‘Endangered’ and the ‘Viper’ and ‘Golden Viper’ as ‘Near Threatened’. Although there is a law, the authorities do not enforce the law regarding the endangered status of this small animal. Also, this viper is found in rural areas, making it difficult to enforce the law.

I wonder if you have them around where you live since you mainly show pictures and text which can be found everywhere on the internet. I would like to read something new. Personal information/experiences.

That the lizard isn't a snake we all can see.

With us there are people keeping them for pets.
