Editing was really sweet , I almost forgot that my food was on fire.

I previously started editing with CapCut, but there were some things I didn't have an idea about. So going through the contest and the things that were taught, I began to understand things better, go with me as I edit some videos using CapCut.

This app can really change your view on how we tell stories with videos. The way I turn my rough clips into a fine cinematic gist; I was hooked already. But before I start with the video, let me talk about my journey from zero to small creative magic for this SLC project.

What is CapCut?

CapCut is not just another random app that occupied space on our phone. This thing is just like a mobile video magic wand. With it, you can cut, join, add special effects, add music, add text, transitions, animations, and still keep your video attractive.

The beauty of CapCut is that it is simple for beginners , but also powerful for pros. Omo, even if you have never touched video editing before, within minutes you can start bringing videos to life with your creativity.

Device used: Redmi 13C

Importing Images & Videos

Step one is like inviting guests to a party, you must choose them well. I clicked New Project, it wasn't my first time using Capcut, but then I got a notification asking me for gallery access. I gave it limited access, selected clips that were fitting to my story, and boom, they lined up on my timeline waiting for my creativity to come to play.

I tried to balance the clips and images so the story would go smoothly. For example, when we go home from school after lectures, to the exams period, there's already a small story with the flow.

Cropping Before Importing

1000631078.jpg

Some clips are usually longer than necessary. Before they entered the dance floor, I had already trimmed it with the scissors icon. Only juicy parts are allowed. I don't drag story, no dull moments for my audience. You can adjust duration, select only the frame that makes sense. Yes, trimming is really important if you want to maintain attention.

Timeline – The Control Tower

1000631163.jpg

Think of the timeline as your editing cockpit. This is the part that displays seconds and the minutes. Every move you make here would control the final vibe of your video. One wrong drag and your scene phases out. I am very careful to place clips in perfect sequence so viewers would not get confused.

Main Buttons
1000631080.jpg1000631081.jpg1000631092.jpg

Play ▶️ to watch, Stop ⏸️ to think, and the "+" button when inspiration strikes. Sometimes I remember, I can add more clips here to make the video really interesting. The buttons are easy, intuitive, and important for small creative hands like mine.

Menu Navigation

CapCut have two menus:

1000631084.jpg

Menu 1 – Add audio, text, effects, overlays, subtitles, and more.

1000631091.jpg

Menu 2 – Split, animate, crop, delete… your full toolbox of editing power.

Aspect Ratio
1000631087.jpg1000631086.jpg

First clip is the key here—it decides your video size. But I switched mine to 16:9 because I want that smooth YouTube feel. Zoom with two fingers small to frame the scene properly. I don't want any important details to be cut in half. Perfect aspect ratio is key for professional finish.

Deleting Clips

1000631088.jpg

No space for mediocrity. If the clip doesn't give a vibe, I delete it immediately. I would have removed the capcut watermark for cleaner presentation, but since I had used my free trial for it, I try my best to make the presentation more cleaner. My goal is to make the video crisp, personal, and classy.

Overlay Magic
1000631083.jpg1000631085.jpg1000631089.jpg

I import the Steemit logo overlay and place it at the bottom-right corner like a VIP guest. Stretch till the end so it follows my video like a shadow. It is branding plus a professional touch, that makes the audience know that it is my original project.

Exporting Video
1000631090.jpg1000630979.jpg1000631094.jpg

Final step: I Clicked export, and watched CapCut as it processed my masterpiece, and boom, my SLC project is ready to shine. This is where I was really proud, because all the efforts had turned into visible creative output that I can share.

My Practical Task

I used:

2 clips – videos of my early days in the university.

5 images – showing transformation

1 overlay – Steemit logo

Why these?

The clips tells a micro-story of my growth in school, right from my first year with my friends. Images give personal touch and relatability. Overlay consistently brands the video.

Lessons Learned
  • Even a small clip is important. timing is of the essence

  • Transitions are not supposed to derail from the main idea of the video.

  • There is creativity when you combine clips with personal story.

Final Thoughts

CapCut has really opened my eyes to plenty opportunities. Editing is not just a skill, this is one way to tell story, show style, and share how you see life. Thank you for taking out time to view my entry.

I invite @imohmitch @mr-peng @promisezella to participate in this contest.

All images and videos were taken on my device; Redmi 13C

This is my final work

It's the quality of the video and the advanced way you used in showing us its steps. One thing I love about the clips is that it's related to school and the joy you guys had, the smiles show you guys had a great day. I barely see students rejoice or smile like this 🤣🤣🤣. I wish your first video was in landscape. It would have aligned. Anyways, it's still perfect. Can I ask? What one thing do you wish to learn in this course? Like, a tool or feature you've been dreaming to learn its navigation.

Well, I've learnt most of the features, I'm still tryying to figure out the combination of most transitions
