The Hausa Tribe

Although we have over 20 ethnic groups in Nigeria, they all fall under theses 3 groups which is why we call them the 3 MAJOR ethnic groups in Nigeria

  1. Yoruba
  2. Hausa
  3. Igbo
Today I'll be focusing on the Hausa Tribe. The Hausa tribe live in the Northen part of Nigeria. They contribute a lot to the Nigerian economy.

Population

The Hausas are the largest ethnic group in Nigeria. They consist about 28% of the Nigerian population.
Climate

The weather is usually hot and dry in the north as rain only falls between June and September.
Agriculture

They are known for having large farmlands as they cultivate a lot of food and other products that keeps the nation going. Examples:
Cash crops: Their weather condition helps them plant things like Groundnuts, cotton,e.t.c which can be eaten and sold to people in other countries.
Grains: They also plant Rice, Maize, Millet, e.t.c.
Vegetables like Tomatoes, Onions and other fruits like Oranges, Garden eggs, oranges, e.t.c.
Religion

A large population of the Hausa tribe are Muslims. They have their worship in a mosque. They pray 5 times daily too, those that can't make it to the mosque are allowed to pray wherever they are. Some of them even lay their mats on the road to pray if that's where they are at the time of prayer. It is a honorable thing to see that they aren't ashamed of their faith.

Marriage

The Hausa tribe has a unique way of conducting a marriage ceremony.
When a man is interested in a woman, he goes to see the family, they give him a list if items needed as the bride price. When that is paid, they set a date for the wedding. The wedding is usually held in the mosque. When the couple is joined together, the bride's family prepare her for the the reception. The bride is adorned with jewelries and henna is drawn on her hands. After the reception, the bride is carried to her new home with food and other items.

Conclusion

I'd like to invite @precious9 @imohmitch and @johngeorge to participate
