Cassava flour popularly known as "Garri" in Western and Central African countries, particularly in Nigeria, can be explained as a staple food which is made from cassava tubers, which are peeled, washed, and grated or crushed to produce a mash. Garri is made of two types. They are yellow and white varieties, with yellow garri usually containing palm oil. Garri contains several nutrients that are known to promote good health, such as fibre and potassium. In addition, Cassava flour serves a good source of carbohydrates and provides a quick energy boost.

Steps On How To Process Cassava Flour (Garri )

The steps on processing cassava flour is really tiring and stressful. Here, the parents can do it because they are up to the task. Before we started the process, I went to the farm to harvest the cassava and it wasn't an easy job although I went with my brother. We spent almost all the whole day harvesting these cassavas as seen below. So, let's start with the steps;

Step 1:

As I said earlier, i went to farm and harvested the cassava, brought them back home.

Step 2:

Next, I peeled the back of the cassava and put it inside basin for wash.

Step 3:

After that, I wash them and put inside the bag for grinding.

Step 4:

I took it to the place for grinding. Am so sorry I wasn't able to take pictures went it was grinded because I didn't go with my phone.

Step 5:

After grinding the cassava, it was put inside the bag and it was put under the presser machine where the water coming out from the cassava to dry up.

Step 6:

Next, I brought it back from the grinding place, got my sieve and bowl, then started sieving out the garri out from the chaff.

Step 7:

I set my fire with the firewood we got from the farm, set my frying pot on fire, added a little oil and started the frying.

Step 8:

I kept on frying it, I was getting tired of frying. So my sister decided to help me out. So she kept on frying it until we were done.

Step 9:

Lastly, I spread it out on a bag for the hot garri to cool before I put it inside a bowl. So, here's the final outcome. Guys, hope I tried?

Importance Of Cassava Flour (Garri) To The Society

The production of garri is essential and beneficial to the economy of Nigeria, as it plays a significant role in the food security of the country. Garri has been of a good help to students in higher institution as it serves as a life saver to them. Some of us here that are in the high institution can relate to this. Furthermore, It provides a readily available and affordable source of carbohydrates, especially for those with limited resources. The production of garri has contributed to the economic activities of many people involved in cassava farming and processing in the society. Garri is primarily known for its carbohydrate content, but it also contains some protein, iron, and other minerals.
