Food Or Snacks, Which Does Kids Prefer More?

INTRODUCTION

I am here to present an interesting topic for discussion. Sometimes, parents say that their kids are not the foody type. In the morning when preparing them for school, the kids would be forced to eat so as to not feel hungry in school. The kids would refuse or just take less than little of the food given to them.

To make it an interesting issue, some parents would put some snacks alongside the food in kids lunch box. While in the school, the kids abandones the food and go for the snacks say, biscuits. As a parent, does this disturb you? Let's know about it in the comment section.

I know of parents whose children are four in number. Among these four children, only one is truly in love with food. The rest of the children prefers taking more of snacks than food. Infact, these three children would be severely forced to eat food before they do.

Most of the time I see these three children, they are either eating biscuits, meat pie, egg rolls, or any other type snacks. Their mother, who is most often around and runs a provision store, tells me that even if they go to school with food in their lunch boxes, they only eat small portion of the food and would return home with it. To the children, this not a problem but to their parents, they are not okay with this.

To show the extent to which this disturbs the parents of this children, they have severaly taken these children to the hospital to know if it is a medical issue. The children were examined by the doctor and nothing was found to be medically wrong with them. But this report does settle well with parents.

Looking at the children, they are healthy and neither do they look malnourished. They are strong and Play together with other children around. Even though they may fall sick, it may not be because they don't regularly eat food. The sickness may be from any other cause.

This case is another difficult side of children's upbringing. It would be seriously disturbing to see children who should be eating food so well, prefer to be taking snacks. Take for instance, beans is recommended for children to be eating. This is because of its high nutritional components such as:

  • Protein
  • Zinc
  • Fibre
  • Amino acid
  • Potassium and many more micronutrients that children require to grow well.

Personally for me, I also find it worrisome seeing children eating more of snacks or processed food. The Snacks they eat are fully processed and so, they lack the required nutrients that the body needs.

Anyway, there are experiences which show that children who eats more snacks than food in their early age, outgrows it in the later part of childhood. But this is not to say they would totally stop taking snacks; they would now be craving for more food than snacks. They may be eating snacks when food is not readily available or eat even after having their food.
