One Picture And One Story Week #90
At a young age, she had big dreams. The dream of becoming a doctor. She thought that one day she would bring glory to her family and help the poor at the same time. Her parents also worked hard to fulfill her every wish.
Despite having limited resources in the village, Raka topped the school. Even her teachers were surprised to see her hard work and dedication. After passing her senior secondary exam, she appeared for entrance test for admission in the best medical college. Her dreams were now close to becoming a reality.
But alas, life does not always go the way we think. One day, when Raka was waiting for college admission, she got a bad news. Her father's health suddenly deteriorated. The doctors told that he had a serious illness and a lot of money would be needed for his treatment.
This news was no less than a thunderbolt for Raka. Her family's financial situation was already bad, and now her father's treatment required a lot of money. Raka decided to put her dreams behind. She thought it was time to take responsibility of her family.
She gave up her dream of getting admission in medical college and started working in a local shop. Her mother cried and said, "Raka my darling, your dreams are bigger for us, you should carry on seeing them. I will work for your future ."
But Raka smiled and said, "Mom, my biggest dream is to live with you and Papa. Dreams can be seen again, but loved ones cannot be lost."
Days passed. Raka devoted herself completely to taking care of her family. Her father's condition was gradually getting better, but there was a void somewhere in Raka's mind. She would often sit alone at night and think that if circumstances were different, she could be in medical college today.
One day, a health camp was held in the village. Doctors from the city had come there. Raka volunteered to help them. She took care of patients, helped doctors, and felt like she was living out her old dream.
The doctor was impressed by her resourcefulness and kindness. He asked her, “Have you ever thought of becoming a doctor?”
Raka smiled and said, “It was my dream, but it may be too late now.”
The doctor turned serious and said, “Dreams never grow old. If you have courage, you can still fulfill your dreams.”
The doctor told Raka about a new scholarship program for people in her situation. Hearing this, Raka’s eyes lit up with hope. She decided to start studying again, and this time, she was confident that she would make her dreams come true.
Raka said to her mother, “Mom, maybe I can dream of becoming a doctor again.”
Her mother hugged her and said, “I knew your courage has given life to your father. Now it’s time for you to give new life to your dreams too.”
Raka faced difficulties, but she did not give up. She appeared for the exam again, and this time she succeeded. Her dreams were broken, but she showed courage to put them back together.
Dear Steemians the story of Raka tells us that no matter how many difficulties come in life, if there is a will and courage in our mind, no dream can remain unfulfilled.
