Our seasonal Fruits
Steem greetings @everyone and welcome to my blog as I share ideas on the contest “Our seasonal fruits”. For the contest, I will follow the guiding questions below and I hope you all find pleasure in reading through it.

Which season are you enjoying right now? Is it your favourite? |
---|
In Cameroon, we have two seasons which are; rainy and dry season. The rainy season starts around mid-March and ends around September while the dry season starts in October and ends in early March. However, with climate change, at times it rains till November and at times rainy season comes late or early in February.
Presently, it is supposed to be the rainy season but it is like another year for us to suffer climate change. Unlike the rainy season, we can go for almost 2 weeks without rain. This affects crop growth and another year of serious droughts.
Notwithstanding, the rainy season is my favourite season because everywhere is green, unlike the dry season with dust particles blown from the north easterly winds across the country. The rainy season is also my favourite season because of the presence of different types of fruits and vegetables in abundance.

Which fruit is available in the market according to this season? |
---|
During this season, as I earlier said there are several fruits available but the most dominant fruit during the rainy season in Cameroon is Mangoes. Everywhere in the country during the rainy season, mango is the most common fruit found in every market around the country.

One good thing about this season is that the mangoes are in different categories and you can make a choice on which mango to consume. I know of about 5 different species of mangoes present during this season across the country.
Other fruits available in the market during the rainy season are oranges, pineapples, plums, etc but the most dominant are mangoes.
Do you like this fruit? If yes or no, tell us why. |

I so much love mangoes and I hardly pass them by without purchasing some. It is one fruit that I can consume every day without any issues.

Mangoes are my favourite because they are rich in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. They are good and enhance eye and skin health. They help to boost your immune system as well as improve digestion. For these reasons, I love eating mangoes.
What is the market price of this fruit? Share with us the steem and the local price of fruit. |
---|
In the past mangoes used to be expensive in the coastal regions of Cameroon in March, because they have favourable weather that makes it possible for them to harvest mangoes in early March and by ending April, they do not have mangoes anymore. We used to purchase it whenever we travelled to the coastal region with a bucket of mangoes costing about 6,000FCFA which is about 95 steem at the current market rate.
This year, the story was different, the price of the same bucket of mango in March cost about 10,000FCFA, about 170 steem.
In the North West region of the country, mangoes now are expensive because our harvest time for mangoes is late
May to August. The prices are crazy as yesterday I bought 7 mangoes for 1000FCFA approximately 15 steem.
In sum, the rainy season is my favourite season because of the abundance of varieties of fruits and vegetables. Mangoes are my favourite fruit due to their nutritional value. Though the prices are exorbitant presently, I still buy them because I love mangoes. I will invite @josepha, @kouba01 and @pelon53 to participate in the contest.
Hello @chant, i like your publication which offers an interesting and engaging reflection on the seasonal dynamics of Cameroon, particularly highlighting the impact of the rainy season on fruit availability, it is illuminating to understand how climate change is disrupting traditional climate patterns, affecting crop growth and mango prices, thus vividly illustrating the environmental challenges we face, the personal anecdotes and details on local prices (in FCFA and Steem) add a dimension of authenticity, while the photos, without doubt, visually enrich the story. Thank you for the invitation.

Mangoes are out in Cameroon? Look what I am missing! I live in Nigeria and it is raining here already. To much for me liking because it soaks clothes every time I wash and try to sun dry them. I'd try to visit the fruit store to see if there are mangoes available now. I have missed them soooooo sooooooo much. 🥺
Mango is my favorite. We still do not have it here in the market, but we will soon.
