Contest Alert: My bargaining tactics
What is bargaining in business?
Bargaining in business means discussing the price of something before buying it. It is a process where the buyers and the seller trys to agree on a fair prices. The seller wants to sells at a high price to earn more profits while the buyer wants to pay a lowered price to save money. In the end boths try to meet in the middle where they both feel satisfied. Bargaining is very common in local markets street shops or small businesses. It is not only about money but also about communication skills patience and knowing the value of things. For me bargaining is an art that helps us get the right product at the right price.
Are you a good bargainer? What tactics do you normally use?
Yes i think i am a good bargainer. Whenever i go shopping especially in markets where bargaining is allowed i always try my best to lower the price. My tactic is very simple. First i ask the price of the product. If the seller tells me a high price i don’t show that i am very interested. Instead i act normal and sometimes even act like i am going to leave. This makes the seller worried about losing a customer. Then i slowly offer a lower price which i feel is fair. Sometimes i also compare prices with other shops and mention it to the seller. For example i say “The other shopkeeper is giving it for less.” This way the seller feels pressure to reduce the price. Another tactic i use is to bargain politely. I never fight or argue too much because a polite attitude often works better.
Are you of the opinion that all goods should be under bargain or under a fixed price? Explain.
In my opinion not all goods should be under bargain. Some things like medicines branded items or food in restaurants should have a fixed price. This makes business fair and equal for everyone. But for clothes shoes jewelry bags and household items in local markets bargaining should be allowed. Fixed prices sometimes make customers feel cheated because shopkeepers put very high prices. Bargaining gives a chance to discuss and get the right value. Also bargaining creates a friendly interaction between buyer and seller. But at the same time i also feel that too much bargaining is not good because the seller also needs to earn profit. So i believe there should be a balance between fixed prices and bargaining.
Have you fallen victim of buying things higher due to not knowing how to bargain?
Yes i have faced this situation many times in my life. I still remember when I was younger i went to buy a dress for a family wedding. The shopkeeper asked for a very high price and i didn’t know how to bargain properly at that time. I thought maybe the dress was really that expensive so i paid the full amount. Later when i showed it to my cousin she told me that i had paid almost double the actual price. I felt very bad that day but it also taught me a big lesson. From that day i decided to always try bargaining and never agree to the first price a seller asks. Sometimes even now i make small mistakes but with experience i am becoming better. Bargaining is really a skill that improves with practice.
Bargaining is an important part of our daily life especially in countries where markets are full of negotiable goods. It not only helps us save money but also teaches us patience confidence and smartness. I personally enjoy bargaining because it feels like a small challenge where both the buyer and seller try to win. I believe some things should be fixed price for fairness but bargaining should always be there for certain products. We should also remember not to be too harsh with sellers because they also need to earn for their families.
