If I were to start over on Steemit...

If I were to start over on Steemit, here are a few things I would do differently to achieve my goals and build a stronger community.

A. Focus on understanding the platform

My first few weeks would have been spent on learning the rules and guidelines for most communities. Generally, communities have zero tolerance for plagiarism. They support original content and encourage engagement. Doing this would give me deeper insight on how to live up to this expectation.

Next would be to learn the basics. This means understanding how markdowns are used, how to stay up-to-date with Steemit news, which tags are incorporated in which posts, what makes a compelling headline, including the functions of each key. The list is endless.

Once this is done, the next step would be to write my introduction post. The goal is to properly let my potential audience know who I truly am.

That post would answer the questions:

  • Who am I?
  • What are my passions?
  • What value do I intend to bring to the ecosystem?

Once this is fixed, it would be safe to move to the next stage, Content.

B. Pick my content strategy

Let's be honest — you cannot grow anywhere in the world if you are all over the place. So, my questions would be:

  • What issues am I interested in?
  • Who am I targeting?
  • What problems do I intend to solve?
  • What are my aims? Is it to educate, entertain, inspire or inform?

About 80% of my content would tilt to that particular area of interest in order to attract my target audience.

Writing tips: This is the secret to creating high-quality content that solves real problems and meets real needs.

Let's say my target audience are writers, my posts should sound like,
“5 Ways to Write a Compelling Headline”
“5 Things I Wish Every Writer Should Know Before Joining Steemit”

These content would either be written as articles, stories, tutorials or reviews. Either way, I'd write them in an interesting way that sparks discussion. And I'd use high-quality visuals to keep my readers glued to the post.

Rather than upload my posts sporadically, my aim would be to create content consistently and stick to my schedule.

Also, I'd make an effort to experiment on my ideas, identify which posts perform better and improve on them.

Some of my best performing post that attracted high engagements are those I randomly made by infusing some creativity into them. Do with this information what you wish.

C. Build genuine connection with like-minded people

Community engagement will take you where hard work alone cannot. Ever since I started engaging in discussions, leaving genuine comments on other people's posts, and replying to mine, it's been possible to build stronger relationships with others.

I can promise you that I have never met @etoro, @emmabritt, @julietbella, @nsisong2022, @pahlogs, @sariana23, etc. Yet, these are people who consistently engage with my post, and invite me to contests and challenges. I do the same as well.

In summary, we have been able to connect with each other despite the distance or oceans that keep us apart.

D. Take my Steemit growth more seriously

Many newbies are in for the reward. But there is something better. It's growing your influence. This time, I would focus on long-term growth. Power up frequently. Delegate to support high-quality content creators.

By growing Steem power, it becomes possible to support more outstanding content creators. Which is valuable for the Steemit ecosystem.

E. Pay close attention to my personal branding

In a world of so many voices, you need a specific voice to stand out. It starts with being authentic, building a strong presence and credibility.

I try to make my blog memorable. First, with my bio which gives a simple introduction about what to expect.

Next, with my content style which is difficult to replicate. Smiles.

Final thoughts

Actually, I wish to be a respected and valuable member of Steemit. One secret to achieving this is through prioritising value over earning.

If I were to start again, I'd
✔️ Focus on understanding the platform
✔️ Pick my content strategy
✔️ Build genuine connection with like-minded people
✔️ Take my Steemit growth more seriously
✔️ Pay close attention to my personal branding

Doing this will make your content creation journey more sustainable and enjoyable.

Go ahead! It's never too late... 😉

Yes, I will.
This phase would be titled "The great reawakening".

Strategy beats passion sometimes.
With this, one can only keep growing here.
All the best, @ukpono.

Thank you, @yhudy.
It's strategy all the way.
This is one rule that works in every aspect of life.

It's good to have a specific topic that you'll lean on. People would know what to expect
