If the patient's condition is said to be serious, having multiple symptoms, noxiously breathing, has fever higher than ever before, and efforts to bring it down are not working. Moreso, poison has been found in body fluids. The situation is worst to the extent that when symptoms are treated in one area, more of it pop up in other body parts. Truly, if these conditions were to be that of a usual patient, Physicians would not hesitate to declare the sicknesses as chronic and terminal. And not knowing what else to do, the health personnel would just take step to make the patient as comfortable as possible until the end comes.
However, the condition is not that of a human patient but our home-the planet earth. The scenario above well illustrates what is happening to our planet.
Cumulative dirty air, consistent global warming, polluted water bodies, and toxic waste are just a few of the maladies of our I'll earth. Like the doctors mentioned above, the experts are in a quandary as to what is to be done.
The media regularly call attention to the Earth's poor health in their headlines and captions.
Consequently, some people become accustomed to frequent news of the danger to environment, possibly thinking, 'that is not of great concern as long as it does not affect me.' Whether we know it or not, the destruction of the earth's environment affects the vast majority of the inhabitants. And since the contamination of planet earth is now so pervasive, it is likely that is affecting more than one aspect of our lives. All should therefore be of concerned about the health and preservation of our lovely home-the earth. Come to think of this; where else would we live?
But how widespread is the problem? How sick is the earth? How are people's lives affected? I will take a look at just a few factors that help us to understand what we are talking about and that earth is not just mildly indisposed but seriously I'll.

Oceans

Most sections of the ocean are seriously overfished. 70 percent of aquatic lives are so exploited that reproduction cannot or can barely keep up. For instance, the population of all cod, hake, haddock, and flounder in the North Atlantic ocean fell as much as 95%. If this continues, what will it mean for millions who depend on the sea as their major source of food?
In addition, each year an estimated 20 to 40 million tons of sea life are caught and thrown back into the ocean, usually wounded or dead. Why this? Because they are caught along with target fish but are not wanted.

Many negative sides to deforestation exist. This is true because loss of trees has resulted in reduction of the earth's capacity to absorb carbon dioxide, and this causes global warming. Certain species of plants, which are the potential source of lifesaving medicines, will soon disappear. But despite this, forest destruction continues unabated. The rate of deforestation has increased in recent years to the extent that authorities feel that if this persists, tropical forests could disappear in about 20 years.

The dumping of harmful waste materials both on land and in the sea is a serious problem that has the potential for bringing great harm to millions life. The radioactive wastes, by-products of plastics, heavy metals are among the elements that can cause abnormalities, sickness, or even death in humans and animals.

During the past decade, close to hundred thousand of new chemicals have been discovered and come into use. These chemicals find their way into our soil, water, and even our foods. Only few of them have been tested for their health effects on humans. Of the one that have been tested, a significant number have been found to be carcinogenic.
Consequently, they have been many more threats to our environment, which include but not limited to: air pollution, acid rain, lack of clean water, untreated sewage. The few threats already mentioned have come to show that our planet is really sick. The question now is: Can the patient be saved? Or, Is the battle already lost.
