Getting birds ready for the market

These days always begin with feeding the birds. It's so serious that by 6am, my mind is already doing the chore before my hands get to it. Today we're taking some birds to the farm. We need to have fed them and have them ready and loaded before the sun comes up, this way we can reduce the level of stress they'll go through because of the journey and then have them looking full for intending customers.
The bike man is here and we're loading up. You can see us stacking the cages in the picture above.

Once the birds leave, our attention moves to other things. This morning, we're cooking traditional style. The reason for this is that we have a lot to make for breakfast and using the firewood would be way faster than gas.

Prepping up the chicken, and cooking takes the better part of 3 hours and before I know it, breakfast turns to lunch. I quickly head to the market to give my mum her food as she has been calling nonstop...she's hungry.

Life is happening all around me, people are moving to and fro. I'm back from the market but need to wash our largest pen at the moment so we can transfer the birds that are already 4 weeks old. They've been staying in a small space and it has affected their growth a bit. I've been laying this work off for the past weeks as it's a very tedious one , but now, it needs to be done.

rGrueling cleaning going on

By the time I'm through with this work, its already some minutes to 6pm and I am so dizzy I can't stand. Wanting to close my eyes for a little breather, I remember that the chicken feed is finished. This means I need to go to the feed store as soon as possible as they close by 6pm. Dredging up the last strength in my body for today, I change and off to the store I go. I barely make it there as the store owner is about to close.

Two bags at this time can keep those birds fed for the night and the next morning. We'll continue as the sun rises tomorrow
