Living Away from Home

I’m currently a hostelite, living away from my family and hometown. I usually go home just once a month, and even then, I stay for only 2 days due to the heavy workload of university — assignments, quizzes, and projects never give us a break!

But this is what hostel life is all about – it teaches you how to manage life on your own.

😰 Challenges of Hostel Life

  1. Homesickness

There are days when I mIss my family badly my mother’s food, my faTher’s advice, and the comfort of home

Especially at nighT, lying alone in the room, the silence remInds you of everything you’ve left behind

  1. Time Pressure

University life is tough. Assignments, deadlines, presentations – everything comes together. And without family support nearby, you have to handle it all by yourself.

  1. Hostel Food 🍽️

Let’s be honest – hostel food is… “edible”. 😅
Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it makes you appreciate even a simple roti from home!

  1. Limited Privacy & Noise

Sharing rooms means zero privacy. There’s always some noise – someone on a phone call, someone playing music, someone laughing. You learn to study in chaos.

😊 Beautiful Sides of Hostel Life

  1. Unbreakable Friendships

Your roommates and hostel mates become your second family you Cry together, laugH together, and help each other thrOugh thick and thin These friendships are lifelong bOnds.

  1. Midnight Fun

Late-night tea, Maggi parties, deep talks, ghost stories, and random laughter these are the moments that become core memories.

  1. Independence

You learn to manage your laundry, your meals, your time, your finances — you become responsible without even realizing it.

  1. Group Study & Motivation

Before exams, we all sit together and help each other. Even if we’re tired, someone always motivates the group with chai and jokes!

Lessons I’ve Learned So Far
• Self-control & patience
• Managing emotions without family support
• Discipline & time management
• Building connections with people from different backgrounds

Final Thoughts

Hostel life is tough, no doubt. But it’s also beautiful
It’s a phase that makes you stronger, wiser, and emotionally mature
When I go back home for just two days, I hug my mother tighter I appreciate every little thing

“Hostel life doesn’t just teach you how to live – it teaches you how to survive with a smile.”
