Earthquake
It started out as a very fine day, with a lot of sun, but in the afternoon it started to rain, not hard but still you can't go out in the rain. And then, close to 5:30 p.m. we had an earthquake. Quite a big one too, 7.6. Now the epicenter was actually about 500 Kms. from where I live, still most of the people I know felt it, and it was a strong one.
It is kind of funny, I was reading on the laptop when my son, who was about a Kilometer away called and asked me if I had felt the earthquake, I told him no, and at that precise instant a guy close by yelled earthquake, so it seems to me the waves don't move so fast, there was a lapse of at least 30 seconds for it to be felt where I was after my son felt it. Surprisingly I felt nothing. And I have not felt anything since and there have been a few weaker follow ups.
No, there was no damage that I know of, not even in the Cayman Islands which was a couple of hundred Kilometers closer. But I guess we were just lucky, 7.6 is actually a very strong quake. And then we had a tsunami warning, fortunately we have never had a tsunami here despite several strong quakes.
But despite not having felt it, I have noticed something when we are to get an earthquake. My ears seem like they are stopped a few hours before the event, like they are full of air. I was at the mall about two hours before the quake and I felt it, like as if I can't hear anything and I feel like a humming in my ears. I felt that when we had the 7.4 earthquake in 2009, exactly the same as today. i wonder if this is common or if it is only me. I guess many more people must go through this experience.
In any case now I am kind of worried because after a strong earthquake we usually get weeks, even months of aftershocks. And after a while they really get to scare you. Well we were lucky today, No damages that I know of. Oh, yeah, the blue dot on the map is approximately where I live.
These natural disasters are harmful for everyone. So,always be earlier aware of them.
