Tarwiyah and Arafah Fasting: Intentions and Virtues
Hello good afternoon to all steemian friends, how are you today? Hopefully everyone is still in good health and always under the protection of Allah SWT so that they can carry out all activities well.
Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijriah or 2025 AD which falls on Friday, June 6, Muslims are advised to perform a number of sunnah worships, one of which is the Tarwiyah fast and the Arafah fast. Although sunnah, both fasts have great virtues and advantages and only come once a year, namely in the month of Zulhijah. As Muslims know, the month of Zulhijah is one of the noble months. The Tarwiyah and Arafah fasts are the main practices in the first ten days of the month of Zulhijah. This is very clearly stated in the Qur'an as the most noble days.
On Wednesday (May 28, 2025) the Indonesian Government through the Ministry of Religion has set the Eid al-Adha holiday of 10 Zulhijah 1446 Hijriah to fall on Friday, June 6, 2025. Thus, the schedule for the implementation of the Tarwiyah fast is on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 (8 Zulhijah). While the Arafah Fast is on Thursday, June 5, 2025 (9 Zulhijah). Both the Tarwiyah fast and the Arafah fast are highly recommended for Muslims who are not performing the Hajj, as a form of worship that brings great rewards. This fast is highly recommended for Muslims because it is included in the most beloved pious deeds by Allah SWT.
Before performing the sunnah fast of Tarwiyah and fast Arafah, Muslims are advised to read the intention first.
Intention of Tarwiyah Fasting:
نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ تَرْوِيَةَ سُنَّةً لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى
Meaning, "I intend to fast the sunnah of Arafah because of Allah taa'ala."
Fasting Tarwiyah and Arafah has great virtues and advantages as explained by scholars and the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Erases the sins of one year and two years
The Prophet SAW said:
"Fasting on the day of Tarwiyah erases the sins of one year and fasting on Arafah erases the sins of two years." (Narrated by Ibn Hibban and Ibn an-Najjar)
Erases past and future sins
It is explained in the hadith narrated by Muslim that:
"Fasting on the day of Arafah erases the sins of the past year and the coming year."
Because these advantages are the reason for Muslims to compete to perform the Tarwiyah and Arafah fasts before the Eid al-Adha holiday.
